The Unsolved Murder of Kia Logan
In 1988, 9 year old South Carolina girl Kia Logan is playing with her sister and a friend at a neighborhood basketball court. Kia takes off on her bike riding a few hundred feet to her mother's apartment when she vanishes. A year and a half later, a child's skull is found in a neighboring town some 35 miles away. It will take years and advancements in DNA technology to identify Kia's skull--her only remains. The case hits a wall until a suspect emerges. Charles Wade Hampton matches witness descriptions of the man who took Kia. He is a known sex offender from Georgia who goes onto admit to multiple child abductions, sexual assaults and even a murder. Trouble is--even with Hampton's confessions, police have trouble linking physical evidence to him. Join us for a tragic case out of South Carolina as we look into Kia's kidnapping and murder and then man likely responsible for the crime. Fred Coffey Jr
This week Mountain Murders brings to you the serial pedophile and child murderer, Fred Coffey Jr. A former Navy veteran, Fred was a convicted sexual predator who seemingly preyed on children everywhere he lived. His story begins in 1975 when he was a suspect in the death of a Maryland girl then later connected to multiple abductions and child murders in North Carolina and later Virginia. It was not until 1986, law enforcement was finally able to obtain enough evidence to charge Fred in one of several murder cases. William Lindsey
From the early 1980s and into the mid-1990s, a serial killer was terrorizing sex workers in Florida and North Carolina. William Lindsey was arrested in Asheville after beating a prostitute to death in 1996. A retired former police officer living in the area sent a newspaper clipping to the St Johns County Sheriff. The Sheriff's office had been investigating brutal cold case murders of Florida sex workers for a decade and a half. William Lindsey's crimes were surprising to a lot of people as he seemingly represented a normal family man in everyday life.
