Episode #212: ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ 5×22, ‘Angel’ 2×22 - Inter-dimensional Booty Call

Join us as we discuss Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 5, episode 22, "The Gift," and Angel season 2, episode 22, "There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb." Superfans: Karen and Maj Newbies: Danielle and Mitch Fun Facts: Karen is excited to be in Chicago visiting Danielle. Danielle is glad that she got to watch The Room with Karen (AKA the Citizen Kane of terrible movies). Maj is still enjoying all things hockey all the time, while Mitch went to a fun going away party for a friend who is going to go play Aurora in Paris, which, as we all know, is Mitch's dream job/life. Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 5, episode 22, "The Gift": -Synopsis -100 episodes of Buffy! -This was billed as a 'series' finale since Buffy moved to UPN in season six. -"Death is your gift" -The newbies had a little trouble with the logistics of Buffy's blood vs. Dawn's blood and exactly what the gate needed to open and close. -The Superfans explain as best they can. -Lots and lots and lots of foreshadowing. Joss had this planned two years in advance. *jawdrop* -And that's a wrap for Ben. And Glory. Wait, Glory is Ben? (hehe) -There is always love for Anya, and this time she's the one coming up with all the plans. -Xander proposed to Anya AND SURVIVED! Congrats buddy, we didn't think you'd make it. -Buffy's ultimatum to the world: No Dawn, no Slayer. -Willow is a little bit the deus ex machina here, but she's badass, so whatever. -All the callbacks! Maj has a list of fun things that reappeared including the Buffybot! -Tara's back, back, back. Back again. -Spike feels! We get a moment between Buffy and Spike as well as some significant interaction between our blonde bloodsucker and Doc on the plinth. -Buffy... she dead. -"She saved the world. A lot." Silly, but meaningful. -You can almost imagine the Scoobies deciding what needs to be on Buffy's tombstone. -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Angel season 2, episode 22, "There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb": -Synopsis -Lorne lives!! Beheadings are but a mere annoyance in Plrtz Glrb. -Wesley in this episode was a little darker, a little more serious. -Karen has a regular Fred-loving session. This will probably be a recurring thing. -Fred and Angel: Yay or Nay? -We do quite enjoy Cordy and the Groosalug, even if his eyes are a little creepy. -Cordy wants to keep her visions and we all find even more respect for her. -Why does Cordy have to com shuck with the Groosalug to pass on her visions when Doyle only had to kiss her? -Angel vs Groosalug. -All is well in Plrtz Glrb. After Cordy abolishes slavery. -Lorne's goodbye to his family is hysterical. -Angel and Lorne's discussion about LA and how it's the place for those that don't fit in anywhere is beautiful. -Willow is waiting for their return. Punch to the gut. -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Listener Feedback: -We know it's hard not to keep watching, but RESIST! We love that you guys are watching right along with the newbies. Mitch's Musings/Danielle's Deliberations: Surprise! We are going to watch the first two episodes of Angel back to back next week, then Buffy the following week because that is how they aired. Episode #211: ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ 5×21, ‘Angel’ 2×21 – Numfar for President

Join us as we discuss Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 5, episode 21, "The Weight of the World," and Angel season 2, episode 21, "Through the Looking Glass." Superfans: Caitlin and Natalie Newbies: Kristen and Mitch Fun Facts: Kristen is really excited to get a new phone tomorrow morning. Like, REALLY excited. Mitch didn't end up taking his trip to Syracuse, but can smell snow at home in Denver. Umm... It's May. Natalie saw David Boreanaz on a couple of panels at a convention this weekend and he was his funny, performing self. Caitlin got to hang out with Karen and meet Andrew for the first time, and had fun trying to avoid traffic jams. They weren't all that successful, but Karen got the authentic Atlanta experience. Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 5, episode 21, "The Weight of the World": -Synopsis -Buffy has been through a lot over the last five seasons, so this was the final straw. -It's terrible timing, but completely understandable. -Bitty Buffy is so cute... and then we go off on a tangent about actors returning on genre shows. -The implanted memory of Buffy holding baby Dawn feels so real and SO cute. -Death is her gift. Oh, Buffy. It doesn't have to be that way, though. -We all have low points, so it's not out of the question that Buffy would have doubts and consider giving it all up. -Buffy literally has the weight of the world on her shoulders. -Willow succeeds in snapping Buffy out of her catatonic state and Buffy is ready to fight. -Then Giles gives her all the contingency plans. They don't look good. -Getting down to the nitty gritty: Is Dawn going to die in the finale? -Is magic the fix all? -The newbies don't think Dawn is going to die, but for very different reasons. -Willow is doing some powerful magic. I mean, it took a bunch of wizards to put a shield up around Hogwarts and Willow did it all by herself. BAMF. -Spike and Xander visit Doc and find out he is definitely on Team Glory. -But they do leave with a box that might help defeat Glory? **crosses fingers** -The magic that has kept Glory and Ben apart is fading, and it's a hot mess. The look on Dawn's face throughout this scene is priceless. -Newbies make finale predictions. Kristen's are fairly general; Mitch's are tragic and pretty specific. -Favorite scenes -Favorite lines Angel season 2, episode 21, "Through the Looking Glass": -Synopsis -Big Question: Will Angel stay in Pylea in season 3? -Kristen says no. Mitch says yes. We shall see. -Angel and Buffy both hit their lowest lows in these episodes. -This episode showed Angel at both his highest highs and lowest lows. -Season 2 of Angel has been about deconstructing who Angel is, and this is a whole new facet of that. -FRED! Angel gets to ride a horse! -Cordy starts this episode at a very lofty high, but has fallen quite low by the end. -Cordy and the Groosalug: We ship it. -Time to get your com-shuk on, Cordy. -Wolf-Ram-Hart. -Mitch really needs to meet the Senior Partners to feel the big-bad-ness of Wolfram and Hart. -Mitch predicts misery for himself. -Is Lorne dead? His head is on a platter. Things don't look good. -Cordy's final moments of the episode show she is definitely at a new low. -Favorite scenes -Favorite lines Listener Feedback: -We find out that Dawn may not have always been intended to be The Key. Wait, what?! -All the Superfans love Numfar! -We are still figuring out our schedule for the two-parters coming up. Stay tuned for the plan. -We can't really do live reactions, but if we ever figure it out, it would be FUN! -It's hard to stop watching after just one episode. -We have a Maple Leafs fan! -And we hope you enjoy your Firefly rewatch. Ariana was in the same room as Roxanne Gay and she is not as intimidating as Ariana thought! Maj did not like S Town, contrary to all the hype. Karen say Caitlin and MET GAGE! Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 5, episode 20, "Spiral": -Fight or flight? Whoops. -Cordelia, the cow -Fred is crazy, but who wouldn't be after living in a hell dimension for 5 years? -Cordelia is not your typical damsel in distress -Favorite Scenes -Favorite lines Listener Feedback: -Newbie predictions continue to amuse -Poor Syracuse. It is not as interesting as the Hellmouth -The shifting tones of Buffy and Angel makes it hard to flip back and forth. Agree?
