PAUSE… You hold them tight, You’re frozen with their weight. It feels quite impossible, To survive in this state. So breathe in deep, And expand your belly wide, The air will bring new life, And create more space inside. PAUSE… Breathe in deep again, And let it slow you down. Breathe out fully now, Feel lighter all around. PAUSE… Breathe in and relax, Breathe out and release. Breathe in, Breathe out. LONG PAUSE… Acknowledge those fears, See them with clear eyes, Honor that they’re here, Listen to their cries. PAUSE… There’s wisdom there, Beyond those scary screams. Take a good look inside of them, Fear is more than what it seems. LONG PAUSE… What is fear saying? What is really there? If you open yourself to listen, Perhaps fear will share. LONG PAUSE And with each breath in and out, feel your body gently sinking into the folds of your bed. LONG PAUSE Visualize a soft glow quivering in the darkness, a glow that draws your gaze. PAUSE In the middle of the room, a candle flickers, a white pillar candle with a dancing flame. PAUSE Colors dart in and out of the flame, as the candle bends and leans from side-to-side. PAUSE Sometimes, the candle gives off yellow and orange, colors that warm and spread through the soul. PAUSE Other times, the candle flickers in whites and blues, casting tranquility throughout the room. PAUSE As the candle dances gracefully, you find yourself soothed by its light and becoming more deeply relaxed the longer you look into it. PAUSE As you relax, the candle piques your senses: Tiny fizzes from the wick burning tickle your ear, and the flame continues to gyrate and move as you watch it. PAUSE The warmth of the flame wraps around you, like a nest of caring and comfort, and as it radiates, a hint of lavender tinges the air. PAUSE At times, the flame teeters back and forth, creating a rhythmic pulse that connects more deeply with you. PAUSE With each flutter of the light the candle’s glow settles within you, sparking warmth from the inside and opening your own soulful light. PAUSE As you behold the candle, you feel the flame gently leading you to a still space within, a space of pure peace and total serenity. PAUSE And while basking in this space of peace and calm, the shimmering candle takes you to a deeper level of understanding and self-discovery. PAUSE The more the candlelight glimmers in the room, you quietly become more self-aware, as beautiful hidden truths are revealed to you. PAUSE These truths may be wonderful parts of yourself that you’ve denied, or kept away from others– or perhaps not even have realized. Yet, now, they shine brightly in the beauty and clarity that is you. PAUSE Now, imagine that, as the candle flickers, it imparts wisdom to you, sharing greater insights that expand your soul. PAUSE And, as the flame whispers its wisdom, you take a breath and the light from this knowledge opens you even more. PAUSE The newfound awareness brings you peace and focus that flow through you effortlessly, filling your being in new ways that transcend what you’ve known about yourself. PAUSE And all through the awareness, there is a relaxation and a calmness that softly stream through you like gentle waves. PAUSE So, give yourself permission to stay in the stillness of your soul, in this Zen-like awareness of the self filled with tranquility. PAUSE It’s time to relax, To settle in for the night, So close your eyes, open your mind, And lean in to glimpse the magic. PAUSE Imagine the most beautiful place you can, The place that fills you with longing and wonder, The place you’ve been waiting your whole life to see, The place that makes you feel like it’s part of you. PAUSE Perhaps you dream of green mountains, Of fresh, leafy air and crystal lakes. A cozy timber cabin, Wide, breezy porches on every side. PAUSE If you tilt your head just slightly, You can glimpse water between the trees. And if you listen very closely, Lighthearted birds trill and wrap you in song. PAUSE Squirrels and chipmunks rustle in the bushes, Reminding you how to play. And sparkling sunshine glints off every leaf, Calling your spirit toward the sky. LONG PAUSE Take a breath of forest air, and hold its precious peace within. Release the breath back to the trees, and absorb their protective power. PAUSE Maybe you long for a pristine beach instead, With white sands and turquoise water. You walk for miles seeing not a soul, As you gather shells and stones. PAUSE Those shells have journeyed very far, To make their way to you. Each color and ridge has a story to tell, And those stories are part of you now. PAUSE If you look toward the horizon, Your awareness swells and grows. For you and that shell are the same somehow, Tiny pieces of the magnificent all. PAUSE Lower your gaze to the water, Turn your ear to the ocean’s song. Hear your pulse in the waves’ rolling rhythm, Let the soft roar settle your mind. LONG PAUSE Take a long, deep breath of ocean air, its salty weight rich and familiar. Exhale that breath into the vastness, feeling both release and connection. PAUSE Or perhaps you dream of desert sands, Of finding beauty in their peaks. The shifting landscape lights you up, With its hazy shimmer full of secrets. PAUSE From tiny grains grow massive crests, Merging at the whim of the winds. The earthy palate, so much more complex than it appears, Blends light and shadow with a masterful hand. PAUSE The desert feels sacred in its stark, ethereal way. A study in extremes, dangerous and breathtaking It speaks in a language of its own, Calls out in its wistful, irresistible way. PAUSE This arid wilderness is like nothing else, A place for only the bold. Its challenges seem meant to reveal our truest selves, While reminding of the power of change. LONG PAUSE Draw in the desert’s delicate air, deceptively thin and fine. Offer your breath to the wind as you exhale, let it carry you across the sand. PAUSE Maybe you see yourself crossing the plains, Broad vistas in every direction. Rocky mountains flanking grassy prairies, Their peaks lifting the heart as they rise. PAUSE Imagine yourself on horseback, Galloping through the fields. Feel the sun and the wind and the majesty, Realizing that here, you are truly free. PAUSE Far above, hawks and eagles circle. All around you, wildflowers bloom. The earth thrums with the ancient echoes of buffalo, And in an instant, you’re transformed. PAUSE Freedom shows its smiling face, Reminding you of your power. So you urge your horse ever faster, And ride until the two of you feel as one. It’s time to shed the excess, To strip away what doesn’t serve. PAUSE Tune in as it happens, Feel the lightening, the lifting, The easing of tension and strain. Limb by limb, cell by cell, Your body settles and calms, Paving the way for your mind to follow. PAUSE Your breathing changes as you go, Deeper, slower, fuller, Nourishing tired muscles, Feeding a tired brain, Soothing a tired soul, Embracing a tired heart. PAUSE Feel pride in that fatigue, Before you let it go. Let your mind smile At what you were willing to give, And let that inner smile widen As you realize what you gained in return. PAUSE Bring your thoughts back to your breathing, To its elemental magic and power. That breath is the key to restoration, A secret to finding yourself once again, Ensuring you’ll give tomorrow what it needs, By doing the same for yourself tonight. LONG PAUSE Feel the breath as you draw it, fresh and full of life. Feel the breath as you set it free, purposeful and strong. PAUSE Give in to that sinking feeling, Knowing it’s the good kind, The best kind, The kind that means you’re descending into peace, That you’ve come back to where you belong, As the day’s end approaches. PAUSE Think about your shoulders, Dropping gently toward the bed, About the relief they feel as burdens are set aside. Let that relief seep down to arms and elbows and hands. Gradually stretch each finger, And gently press your palms flat as they ground you. PAUSE Extend the feeling to the rest of your body, To weary legs and feet and toes. Release the tension in your back, The center of the body’s strength, Imagine light slipping down each vertebrae, Leaving a trail of warmth behind. PAUSE Go back to your breath, Hear it without listening, Follow it without questioning. Gratefully go where it takes you. It knows what you need, Even when you’re not sure. LONG PAUSE Take a long, slow breath, feel it fill your chest. When you’ve taken in all you can, exhale what you don’t need. PAUSE Peace is near now, Hovering just ahead, Waiting for you to claim it. Relaxation is yours now, Flowing through your muscles and tendons, Easing you toward sleep. PAUSE Peace comes to us in pieces, A chain of moments or decisions, Each one breaking ground for the next. You feel it like a soft cascade, Like rolling waves of serenity, Sent from a benevolent ocean of calm. PAUSE At first peace feels separate, Like a small target on the horizon, But the deeper we sink, The closer it appears, Until we can reach out with our minds And let it pull us into its arms. PAUSE You’re a different person in that space, A scattered soul returned to self. What seemed impossible just moments before Is now free to bloom and grow. Body, heart, and mind unite, Their shared pulse a lullaby. PAUSE So close your inner eye as well, The most watchful one of all. Thank it for its diligence, For keeping your essence intact, And remind it of tomorrow’s promise, Waiting beyond the solace of night. LONG PAUSE Pull in a deep breath and feel yourself expand. Push that breath out into the world and bask in your new openness. PAUSE Let your breathing chart the course, And feel the steady, comforting waves.
