This week, we had the opportunity to speak to the fantastic Carley Rae, who's spirit shines through with each word she speaks. In 2013, helped develop LEARN INC., a non-profit school for whole-person learning experiences that focused on individualized learning programs built around the unique needs of each student. We chat about the traditional education model and how education, as it is, often waits for our kids to fail before we can obtain the support they need in the classroom environment. Carley's educational pursuits have included organizational development, non-violent communication, neuro-sensory systems, chronic pain management, diabetes prevention, dignified end-of-life experiences, psychology, and energy medicine. She has completed thorough training to teach evidence-based mindfulness and meditation practices. I use therapeutic touch, breath, mindfulness, and movement modalities for client-centered healing. This week, we had the opportunity to speak to Elissa McFarland, an intervention specialist for children with mild to moderate learning needs and Mother to two children. She loves her job. This school year will be her 13th year teaching. As a child, she received intervention services. In 3rd grade, she was diagnosed with dyslexia and later was diagnosed with ADHD. Having walked this path as a child has led her to her passion for helping students. We discuss the school system, raising children who will need support from the public school system, and available services. We talk about her journey with special education services and their path to obtaining a diagnosis for their daughter. What she provides to her students and the families she works with. Elissa has an amazing husband, Brandon, and their oldest, Aleena, is six and going into 1st grade. Their youngest daughter, Lexi, is four and starting preschool. We love to talk about school as a new school year rolls around, and we look at sending our kids off to school for another year. We thought we would start with preschool and chat with Kaite, who has spent her time as a classroom special education teacher, coach, and on the child find team. We discuss early education and the importance of early education. Katie discusses how preschool can teach really how it is to be at school, a stepping stone for the rest of the school experience. We talk about inclusion, teaching kids early about differences, and how starting that early can make such a big difference. We had the fantastic opportunity to speak with the powerhouse couple Jerry and Jo-Ann from Bacon and Juiceboxes. The work they do not only to educate but to support the community around us is incredible. Taking their own life experiences to provide information and support to those around them. We discuss the importance of educating those around us about our kids, talk about their parenting journey, and their motivation and dedication is something we can all learn from. Jerry and Jo-Ann have been married for 25 years. They have two kids Anna, who just graduated from High Point University, and Eric (19 years old). Eric was diagnosed with Autism at 2.5 years old. Jerry started Bacon and Juiceboxes in 2012. Shortly after, Jo-Ann also started sharing on the blog and Facebook page. Jerry wrote and published his novel (Desperate Pursuits) in 2020 and formed his company (Blue Bridge Autism Training) in the same year upon retiring from his police career. This week drop our cutest episode to date. Our kids take the mic. We took the opportunity to interview our children. You will hear that many of them have different communication styles, and we navigate our questions based on their style. Some of our kids are verbal, and some are not. We also had the cutest guest host on the planet. Then we had the opportunity to get our kids together to chat with each other on Zoom. One of the best things about having mom friends is our kids also get to connect. Some of our kids have met in person, and some have met through the Internet. There is no doubt these kids have a connection, especially since they have spent two years watching their mom's podcast on Monday nights. In our final episode of this series, we had the opportunity to speak to Jaime Ramos. Jaime is no doubt the heart and soul of our podcast. She keeps us organized, edits our content, and works incredibly hard to make sure we have episodes coming out every week. Jaime lives in Colorado with her husband, Isaac, and her two children, her 8-year-old autistic son Jesse and five-year-old daughter Amelie. Jaime makes sure her kids have the best childhood memories, like cake for breakfast on their birthday, knock-out Halloween costumes, birthday parties with themes, and all the incredible love any kid could ask for. Beyond her mothering, she is a fantastic friend. She has the best oneliners that keep us laughing and will always show up with a supportive, understanding ear to listen to each of us, we often joke she is the face of the podcast, but we also admire her for her beautiful energy and spirit on the inside. She is also hands down the best dancer in the group. We love her honesty about herself as who she is to her core and the deep rich life experiences she has walked. Kimberly McIsaac is an amazing mother to four grown children, Neil, Alyssa, Kierra and Lexi. The McIsaac’s are home in Massachusetts, where Kim and her husband Neil have raised their family. Week three of this series, and we continue our deep questions this week. This week we had the opportunity to talk with the amazing Jenn Dunn, and learn more about Jenn as we run through the questions. Jenn is a fantastic mother to her beautiful daughter Kya, and she is a working mother who has built her career with a lifetime of dedication to her current company. There is no doubt that Jenn is one of a kind. She is wicked smart and keeps us current on politics, celebrity lawsuits, and the best kitchen appliances. Jenn is passionate about all relationships in her life. We admire her for her strength, her unwavering dedication to her daughter, and her fierce spirit.
