Interview with Natalie Vecchione from FASD Hope
We had the pleasure of interviewing Natalie Vecchione of FASD Hope for FASD Awareness Month. Natalie Vecchione is an FASD parent advocate, podcaster, author, wife and homeschool mom of two. Natalie and her husband, John, built their family through adoption. Their son, who is almost 19, lives with an FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder). He has graduated from homeschool and he is an aspiring woodworker. Their daughter is 6 and they have a much different adoption journey with her, as they’re very close with her birth mom. Natalie turned her family’s unique challenges and journey with FASD from career reinventing into a calling when she and her husband began FASD Hope in October 2020. She been an FASD podcaster for over a year. In October 2020, Natalie & John cofounded “FASD Hope” FASD Hope is a podcast, website and a place for awareness, information and inspiration for those people whose lives have been touched by an FASD. The FASD Hope podcast series is through the lens of parents advocates with over 18 years of lived experience. Autism from Homeschool to Adulthood with Kristi Johnson
Our interview this week is with Kristi Johnson, happily married to her soul mate, best friend, and partner in crime. We chat about her oldest non-verbal autistic son is 19, middle son who is 17, and youngest son who is 16, and has Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). She started homeschooling her kiddos at the end of 2015, after having issues with public school system. She describes homeschooling as the most rewarding, most challenging, and the biggest obstacle she has dealt with. One her greatest goals in her life is to bring autism awareness to others. Kristi gives us an amazing look into her homeschooling skills, what we should all be thinking about now instead of later regarding adult services, and how to be a fierce advocate for our babies. Tips from Kristi: Don’t be afraid to ask that mom in the milk isle at Target how she is doing it. Come hear her tips and tricks!
