Alex Laughlin an audio producer at BuzzFeed News. Before that, she was a social media editor at The Washington Post. Outside of work, Alex is on the board of advisors for an upcoming narrative podcast on Asian American identity. Some of her highlights include making podcast for The Washington Post about mixed race identity, created Pay Up, a Slack community devoted to fostering conversation about the gender wage gap and wrote an article about podcasting that went viral. 518: Say No With Yi Liu
Yi Liu is a US-based Chinese(Mandarin)-English bilingual actress, trained in NYC and has credits in theater, films, documentaries, and contemporary art. The short film Joy Joy Nails, starring Yi Liu, premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in April of 2017. She also starred in“Li-Yan, 2016”, directed by world-renowned French artist Philippe Parreno, which was exhibited in Gladstone Gallery in New York, 2016. She also starred in the short film “The Daydreaming Bunny”, which received millions of viewers after it was released, and had a principle role the short film “The Walker” which won Best Short in 2016 Alicante Film Festival. Yi used to follow the crowd and wanted to be liked by everyone. When started learning to say no to things that don't serve her, that is when she started to stand up for herself and showcased her authentic self versus the Asian woman stereotype. Jackie Fernandez is a two time Emmy award winning TV host and content creator. She is also an Asian American advocate. She has been in the TV industry for more than a decade and that means she lived in a lot of places. Anchoring the morning shows in Greensboro, NC and Cleveland, Oh gave Jackie the chance to cover some of the biggest stories those cities had ever seen from Donald Trump’s RNC to the Cavaliers NBA Championship to Maya Angelou’s death. Unbelievable stories she felt privileged to tell. Along the way, Alice won two Emmys for her work in both hard news coverage and community service. Winning one Emmy is pretty unreal so when she got another one, she gave it to her mom and dad. The even had a little awards ceremony and everything! Alice Yoo is a UCLA graduate that majored in Economics. Ever since she was 10 years old, she knew she wanted to be an entrepreneur. She decided to start a website called My Modern Met, where they would showcase modern art, design and photography. With the help of her brother, they grew the audience to about 3 million visitors a month and worked with large brands creating content for them from Cadillac and Honda to Intel. Alice wrote a book called For Love, which is sold on Amazon and in bookstores. Along the way, she discovered hand lettering and knew right then that she would create a brand that sold art, apparel and accessories to the modern feminist. That is when Skylar Yoo was born and she sells statement tees like "Girls to the Front", "Yes, She Can" and "Fearless Girl" all made in this beautiful hand lettering style. Alice used to feel like she was never good enough to go out for what she deserve but having kids helped her realize that love is unconditional no matter what she does in life. Leigh Roxas-Mobley is a woman in tech. Leigh is passionate about encouraging those in underrepresented groups to pursue their dreams of working in a STEAM field. As a Moms Can: Code coach, Leigh hosts coworking sessions and workshops designed to help fellow moms learn to code and pursue careers in tech. In March 2018, Leigh was on the winning team at The Expat Woman’s Womanhack All Women’s Hackathon, where she and her teammates designed an app to make women’s healthcare more accessible and affordable. In April 2018, Leigh was a guest speaker at the Moms Can: Code Virtual Summit. Leigh shares how she was able to overcome her negative perceptions of herself and be able to become a woman in tech.
