Texas Primaries, Ted Cruz, and Stormy Daniels

Texas Primaries, Ted Cruz, and Stormy Daniels

A portion of our Young Turks Main Show from March 7, 2018. For more go to http://www.tytnetwork.com/join. Hour 1:  Cenk & John. The most striking thing about the much-hyped Texas primaries is how ordinary they actually were. That was the message from the Texas Tribune’s Evan Smith, who has been following the state’s politics for the better part of three decades, when I spoke with him by phone. At the end of the day, 1.5 million Republicans voted in the primary and 1 million Democrats did. Despite the blue Texas hype and anti-Trump national environment, Republicans held a 500,000-vote advantage once all the ballots were counted. “Democrats like to say Texas is not a red state, it’s a nonvoting state. Fine. But the fact that it’s a nonvoting state means that it’s a red state,” Smith, the Tribune’s CEO, told me. “At the end of the day, yesterday was more or less a regular Texas election. More Republicans turned out than Democrats.” Sen. Ted Cruz said Wednesday that his re-election campaign was "just having a sense of humor" when it released a radio ad teasing Rep. Beto O'Rourke, who won the Democratic primary, for going by Beto rather than his given name, Robert. "In terms of the jingle, some of it is just having a sense of humor," Cruz told CNN's "New Day." "We had some fun with it."  Cruz, meanwhile, goes by Ted instead of his given name -- Rafael Edward Cruz.  "You're absolutely right. My name is Rafael Edward Cruz," Cruz acknowledged. "I am the son of my father Rafael Cruz, an immigrant from Cuba who came to Texas with nothing."   Hour 2:  Adult film star Stormy Daniels sued President Donald Trump on Tuesday, alleging that he never signed a nondisclosure agreement that his lawyer had arranged with her. Stephanie Clifford, known professionally as Stormy Daniels, signed both the agreement and a side letter agreement using her professional name on Oct. 28, 2016, just days before the 2016 presidential election. Cohen signed the document the same day. Both agreements are appended to the lawsuit as Exhibit 1 and Exhibit 2. The "hush agreement," as it's called in the suit, refers to Trump throughout as David Dennison, and Clifford as Peggy Peterson. In the side letter agreement, the true identity of DD is blacked out, but Clifford's attorney, Michael Avenatti, says the individual is Trump. Hosted on Acast. Australia Strikes Back, Trump Elephants, and Amber Tamblyn

Australia Strikes Back, Trump Elephants, and Amber Tamblyn

A portion of our Young Turks Main Show from March 6, 2018. For more go to http://www.tytnetwork.com/join. Hour 1:  Cenk & Ana. Trump rebuffed claims Tuesday that his White House is in chaos amid reports of high-profile departures and discord within the top ranks of the West Wing.  "The new Fake News narrative is that there is CHAOS in the White House. Wrong! People will always come & go, and I want strong dialogue before making a final decision," Trump tweeted. "I still have some people that I want to change (always seeking perfection). There is no Chaos, only great Energy!" The Turnbull government admits it has no idea if Australia will be exempt from US president Donald Trump’s tariffs on steel and aluminium imports, despite claiming last year that it would escape the levies. Ministers have warned that the tariffs could spark a trade war and lead to global recession, and say Australian officials are scrambling to learn the details of the plan. World stock markets tumbled on Friday after Trump announced he would next week impose tariffs of 25% on steel imports and 10% on imported aluminium, in an attempt to shield local manufacturers from global competition. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has quietly begun allowing more trophy hunting of African elephants, despite President Donald Trump’s pledge last year to uphold a ban on importing parts of animals killed by big-game hunters.  Hour 2:  Actress Amber Tamblyn faces backlash after Tweeting that Hasidic Jews in New York City are targeting her. Of six crash reports involving robot cars filed in California so far this year, two involved a human approaching the car and attacking it. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Trump Tariffs, Mike Jeffcoat, Putin Missile Strike, and Trump vs Alec Baldwin

Trump Tariffs, Mike Jeffcoat, Putin Missile Strike, and Trump vs Alec Baldwin

A portion of our Young Turks Main Show from March 2, 2018. For more go to http://www.tytnetwork.com/join. Hour 1:  Cenk, John, Emma Vigeland, & Mark Thompson. Trump doubles down on tariffs. Trump on Friday defended his decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum, even as he acknowledged the move could trigger a global trade war. In a series of early morning tweets, the president continued to defy members of his own party — and some of his top advisers — by insisting that the tariffs would benefit the U.S. economy. “When a country (USA) is losing many billions of dollars on trade with virtually every country it does business with, trade wars are good, and easy to win,” Trump tweeted.  Hour 2:  Mike Jeffcoat, the coach at Texas Wesleyan University and a former major-league pitcher, has been fired after saying in an email to a Colorado high school prospect that the university no longer recruits players from the state due to failed drug tests. Trump has posted a furious, rambling and misspelt tweet about Alec Baldwin, the actor famous for impersonating him on Saturday Night Live. In an early morning post that rambled on multiple tangents, misspelt the word "dying" and called Mr Baldwin by the wrong name, Mr Trump suggested that the impersonation of him on the programme was painful to watch. Alex Jones, Jeff Sessions, Solar Industry, and Steel Tariffs

A portion of our Young Turks Main Show from March 1, 2018. For more go to http://www.tytnetwork.com/join. Hour 1:  Cenk & Ana. Alex Jones lists reasons he’s not anti-semitic siting his wife’s big nose as proof. Trump's rebukes of Attorney General Jeff Sessions have included referring to him behind the scenes as "Mr. Magoo," The Washington Post reported Wednesday evening.  Hour 2:  President Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on imported solar materials is already taking its toll on U.S. jobs. After putting plans on hold last month to expand its factories in the United States, SunPower Corp., one of the nation’s largest solar panel manufacturers, now intends to lay off between 150 and 250 workers from its U.S. operations, or 3 percent of its global workforce, as part of a plan to cut operating expenses by 10 percent. Dow closes more than 400 points lower after Trump says steel and aluminum tariffs coming. A Virginia immigration court on Monday could decide to deport the wife of an Army 7th Special Forces Group veteran, despite provisions in the law that allow her to remain in the United States. Hope Hicks Resigns, Immigrant Habeas Corpus, and Doctored CNN Emails

A portion of our Young Turks Main Show from February 28, 2018. For more go to http://www.tytnetwork.com/join. Hour 1:  Cenk & John. Hope Hicks resigns White House job after testifying in front of House Intelligence Committee.  Hour 2:  Immigrants can be held by U.S. immigration officials indefinitely without receiving bond hearings, even if they have permanent legal status or are seeking asylum, the Supreme Court ruled Tuesday. CNN is claiming Glenn Haab, father of 17-year-old Florida school shooting hero Colton Haab, sent “doctored” copies of a producer’s email to Fox News and HuffPost in an effort to make it look like the news outlet was scripting its town hall meeting. Sheriff Israel, Gun Control Poll, and Carrier

Sheriff Israel, Gun Control Poll, and Carrier

A portion of our Young Turks Main Show from February 26, 2018. For more go to http://www.tytnetwork.com/join. Hour 1:  Cenk & Kyle Kulinski. Republican state lawmakers in Florida called on Sunday for the suspension of Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel, accusing him of “incompetence and neglect of duty” in the months before the Feb. 14 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Florida House Speaker Richard Corcoran and 73 Republican colleagues urged Gov. Rick Scott (R) to suspend Israel, a Democrat who was reelected in 2016 and has said he would not resign over his agency’s handling of one of the country’s deadliest school shootings. “Sheriff Israel failed to maintain a culture of alertness, vigilance and thoroughness amongst his deputies,” Corcoran wrote in a letter released Sunday. “As a result of Sheriff Israel’s failures, students and teachers died.” New poll numbers on gun control: around 70% approve stricter gun control. 76% want to ban mental people for guns; 73% banning ar-15s; 90% want stronger background checks. Chinese state-owned chemical firm now has avenue to influence elections. Carrier to lay off 1,000s of jobs, despite Trump promising to protect jobs. Hosted on Acast. Laura Moser, Revenge Porn Governor, and Emotional Support Pets

Laura Moser, Revenge Porn Governor, and Emotional Support Pets

A portion of our Young Turks Main Show from February 23, 2018. For more go to http://www.tytnetwork.com/join. Hour 1:  Kansas election. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is taking fire from the left after months of relative peace, thanks to a document put online the night of Feb. 22 — a collection of opposition research on Laura Moser, a progressive candidate in Texas’s competitive 7th Congressional District. As Moser was attending a campaign event, the DCCC posted a short but brutal collection of hits on Moser that would be likely used against her if she won the Democratic nomination. The 7th District is one of 23 where Hillary Clinton outpolled Donald Trump in 2016, while voters sent a Republican congressman to Washington. “Democratic voters need to hear that Laura Moser is not going to change Washington,” the committee wrote. “She is a Washington insider, who begrudgingly moved to Houston to run for Congress.”  Moser responded later Thursday night, saying in a statement that the DCCC’s tactics represented “why people hate politics” and hurt the effort to take Congress back from Republicans. Hour 2:  Missouri GOP Gov. Eric Greitens was indicted on Thursday amid looming allegations of sexual misconduct and blackmail following an admission of an affair last month. He was charged in St. Louis with a first-degree felony invasion of privacy, according to the Missouri court system. In a statement Thursday, Greitens denied committing any crime and instead called the situation “a personal mistake” from his time prior to taking office. Dana Loesch, Scared Democrats, and Wayne LaPierre

Dana Loesch, Scared Democrats, and Wayne LaPierre

A portion of our Young Turks Main Show from February 22, 2018. For more go to http://www.tytnetwork.com/join.    Hour 1: Student's question to teachers possibly carrying weapons: "Does this mean teachers have to be trained to shoot students?" The victims' families and survivors of the Florida high school shooting have not held back, calling out the National Rifle Association in the days since the massacre. On Wednesday, Dana Loesch, the organization's national spokeswoman faced them for the first time. Loesch said the organization feels the process for buying firearms is flawed and ensured the audience that the NRA is fighting for them. But the crowd booed as she left the event. Democrats mulling how to approach gun control on the campaign trail this year are weighing their tough history on the subject against the burning politics of the moment.     Hour 2: John & Cenk. Longtime National Rifle Association chief executive Wayne LaPierre Thursday addressed criticism of his organization following the Florida school massacre, and his combative defense included expressions of dog-whistle anti-Semitism reminiscent of the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion," with descriptions of a powerful plot to destroy America's freedom by "European-style Socialists" who he said had taken over the Democratic Party.  Hosted on Acast.
