The Family Murders (Part One: The Murders)

The Family Murders (Part One: The Murders)

Between 1979 and 1983, a series of heinous murders shocked Adelaide. The victims were all young men, who had gone missing in or near the northern section of town. The victims ranged in age from 14 to 25, and most were found to have suffered brutal violence, sexual assaults, and/or body mutilation before their death. Some showed signs of prolonged captivity, while death came quick to others. These were connections that were hard to overlook, as police began to theorize that a single offender (or, rather, a group of offenders) had been behind all of these crimes...Part one of twoI originally covered this story back in 2017. The script has been completely re-written, and I have since added in some new/additional information. Olivia Thorndike

Olivia Thorndike

Throughout 2019, bizarre classified ads started to appear in the Virginia-based Rappahannock Record, which were centered around a cold case four decades in the making.Olivia Thorndike had been a 24-year-old young woman living in Henrico County, whose life came to a sudden and tragic end in November of 1981. While detectives and prosecutors had their suspicions about a couple of men in Olivia's orbit, they were never able to build a convincing case against either. Nearly forty years later, Olivia's case remains unsolved, but some people continue to search for justice (those that knew Olivia, and those that never had the chance). Tragically, that means that there's not a lot of information out there about Olivia, but I've been able to learn a lot about the two violent men that revolved around her in the weeks and months before her death... "Grave Robbing for Morons"

"Grave Robbing for Morons"

For years, sleuths have tried to figure out the secrets behind a bizarre home movie. The video - which was eventually titled "Grave Robbing for Morons" and released as a part of a longer compilation - shows a young man speaking to his friend(s) behind the camera. He holds a human skull throughout and regales with his grave-robbing tips and tricks. Unlike the young man's advice, however, the skull appears to be legitimate. Many question the veracity of the young man's claims, and doubt his advice (which borders on cartoonish at times). However, no one has been able to learn the truth about the video itself, nor the many claims and promises that are made throughout... The I-65 Killer (Part Two: The Bearded Man)

The I-65 Killer (Part Two: The Bearded Man)

Throughout the early 1990's, investigators with the Indiana State Police attempted to solve the Days Inn Murders.Unbeknownst to investigators at the time, the 1989 murders of 24-year-old Peggy Gill and 34-year-old Jeanne Gilbert were just the tip of the iceberg when it came to this unknown offender. A rash of other crimes throughout the area - ranging as far south as Kentucky and as far north as Minnesota - would later be linked to the same individual. But that came many years after this crime spree came to an end, when DNA testing had become commonplace. By the time investigators figured out how extensive this man's crime spree had been, it was already too late...Part 2/2Special thanks to Damion Moore (American Crime Journal) for sharing his extensive research in this case with me; if you want to learn more, please check out his website at https://mytruecrime.comEpisode hosted, produced, and additional research/writing by Micheal WhelanOriginal music created by Micheal Whelan through Amper MusicTheme music created and composed by Ailsa TravesProducers: Maggyjames, Ben Krokum, Roberta Janson, Quil Carter, Peggy Belarde, Laura Hannan, Katherine Vatalaro, Damion Moore, Astrid Kneier, Amy Hampton, Emily McMehen, Scott Meesey, Steven Wilson, Scott Patzold, Marie Vanglund, Lori Rodriguez, Jessica Yount, Aimee McGregor, Danny Williams, Sue Kirk, Sara Moscaritolo, Thomas Ahearn, Victoria Reid, Marion Welsh, Seth Morgan, Alyssa Lawton, Kelly Jo Hapgood, Patrick Ari Ekeheien Laakso, Sydney Scotton, Meadow Landry, and Rebecca MillerLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProducerThis episode is sponsored by Harry's, which is offering listeners of Unresolved $5 off of a trial set, which includes a 5-blade razor, a weighted handle, foaming shave gel w/aloe, and a travel cover. The I-65 Killer (Part One: The Days Inn Murders)

The I-65 Killer (Part One: The Days Inn Murders)

On March 3rd, 1989, two women were found to have been murdered 50 miles away from one another. 24-year-old Peggy Gill & 34-year-old Jeanne Gilbert were each living separate lives in Merrillville and Rensselaer, Indiana (respectively), and neither seemed to have an inkling of the other's existence. Their only link seemed to be their employment with the Days Inn hotel brand, with each women working as a night auditor for their local branch. However, in the early morning hours of March 3rd, 1989, the stories of these two women would become forever intertwined. As two separate murder investigation began to unfold that weekend, connections would eventually reveal that a single individual had committed both crimes within a few hours... The Long Island Serial Killer (Update)

The Long Island Serial Killer (Update)

This is an update for episodes #14-16, which detailed the crimes committed by the Long Island Serial Killer, who buried the bodies of sex workers along Gilgo Beach. On January 16th, 2020, Suffolk County Police held a press conference and disclosed new evidence for the first time in several years (including the image of an embossed black belt, which bore the initials "WH" or "HM"). This information wasn't really game-changing, but brought the story back to the mainstream media for the first time in years... The Waltham Triple Murder

The Waltham Triple Murder

In September of 2011, a morbid saga began to play out in a suburb of Boston named Waltham. The bodies of 37-year-old Raphael "Rafi" Teken, 31-year-old Erik Weissman, and 25-year-old Brendan Mess were found in Brendan's second-story apartment. The specific circumstances of their deaths pointed to a vicious killer with personal motives, and robbery was immediately ruled out as a potential motive. The case quickly went cold, but attention would be drawn to it more than a year later, when one of the largest acts of terrorism in American history began to unfold in neighboring Boston...
