WIIM Radio: The World is Your Burrito Edition
Welcome to the newest edition of WIIM Radio! This time we’ve got me, Kyle, and Lauren joined by first-timer Mike Bremer with us! Let’s break in the new guy. Here’s what we got up to: The Red Wings so Far - The team’s performance to this point versus expectations for them are pretty much falling right in line with what you can get in small sample sizes. The defense is still a tire-fire, but the forwards are showing the kind of promise we’ve been loving. Around the World/League - A lot of talk about how we’re all ready for the Athanasiou situation to un-Datsyuk itself and for us to just get an answer so we can all get on with our lives. Elsewhere, the Rangers are hilariously bad and the Devils are actually fun! Positivity Corner - Love all around. Oh man, just so much love. Somebody get a bucket to clean it up. Gross. Reader Questions - Y’all didn’t disappoint with the burrito theme. This was a really fun segment full of delicious questions. Upcoming Games - The Wings have a full plate coming up in the next couple weeks. Will we fill that plate with some more of Big Tony’s spicy meatballs? You can listen via the embedded player above or download from our Blogtalk Radio page. You should be able to find us on iTunes or Google Podcasts as well. Alternately, the option of training a parrot how to recite it verbatim is worth the journey of self-discovery it takes to accomplish. Listen to WIIM Radio: The Opening Night Edition
Welcome to our latest WIIM Radio! We’ve got me, Kyle, Mike, and Prashanth joining us this week to dive right into the 2017-18 season for the Red Wings. Here’s what we got up to: The Athanasiou Situation: We talk about where things stand with the last-holdout RFA in the entire league and where all the blame should lie in regards to why he isn’t signed. Would a one or two-year deal change the way he plays or his motivation to arbitration? We also talk how the Red Wings ought to be using him if/when he does come back. The Red Wings Roster: We break down the forwards and defense, looking at lines and pairings to see how the final roster played out. The Forwards are kind of decent, but obviously they have to play in front of a still-suspect defense. Around the League: While we’ve stamped out as much excitement around here as we can, there’s an entire league to stamp out and get excited for! Is the Atlantic going to be the laughingstock? Can McDavid dummy the whole league? Will Jagr make Calgary a big difference-maker? Positivity Corner: After a lengthy trip around the greener grass on the other side of the fence in the league, we take a break to smell the roses in our own garden. Reader Questions: You asked and we answered on some great reader questions from you all this week, including our outlook, our drinks of choice, our prospects, and our prospects of getting other prospects. Looking Ahead: With just two games this week, we’ll prognosticate the results for you. As always, WIIM Radio is rated R for language and coulrophilia. Learn more about your ad choices. Rule Changes: (1:15:00 - 1:26:20) The NHL made two small rule changes. Puck Tales: (1:26:20 - End) You may think you know the reason Teemu Selanne was able to break the NHL rookie scoring record, but Jay will set you straight. WIIM Radio: The Season Warmup Edition
Welcome to the newest WIIM Radio! This time around we’ve got me, Kyle and Jeff working through our Red Wings feelings. Here’s what we got into: The Prospects Tourney - The Wings’ kids ended up taking 6th, but had trouble in the small sample. The standouts we were looking for did decently well, even though we’re sure they’re disappointed in how they did. Training Camp - We break down the reasoning for the team breakdown and how we’re actually really excited about camp starting and hockey season ramping up, but also the worry about Svechnikov starting off on the B-team. Sheahan/Athanasiou - Will the Wings move out Sheahan to make space for AA? Is AA’s holdout ever going to end? What about the idea of trading Sheahan to Pittsburgh? All this and more! Positivity Corner - I love Jeff’s segue into this section. That is all. Season Outlook - A quick look around the league and the division has us prognosticating on whether the Wings can avoid the Atlantic basement, how good the Stars really are, and what’s up in Washington. Reader Questions - Not too many questions for this one, but the quality was real high, so we got some pretty good discussion going based off what you asked. You can listen via the embedded player above or download directly from our Blogtalk Radio page. For advanced users, try the brain-slug version! Peter and Jay Make Rule Changes: (21:55 - 42:33) The NHL competition committee proposed two rule changes that were pretty boring. Jay and I discuss what we would do if we were allowed three rule changes each. Interview: (42:33 - 1:10:24) We have a great interview with Alan aka @loserpoints. Puck Tales: (1:10:24 - End) Peter tells the story of the Islanders first Stanley Cup victory. You may think you know the whole story, but you might be in for a few surprises. Listen to WIIM Radio: The Nothing’s Easy Edition
Welcome to the newest edition of WIIM Radio! This time around we had me joined by Peter and Kyle to talk about the happenings around Red Wings land lately. Here’s what we got up to: The Athanasiou Situation (Again): AA leveraging the KHL option and all of the crap that goes along with it. We explain why a Canadian kid would be seriously flirting with a KHL deal and how the NHL system would even create a need to do it. Prospect Tournament: The Wings will be looking to avenge their finals loss to the Carolina Hurricanes’ kiddos last year. We’re pretty interested in what’s going on with some of the newer kids who’ll be there, especially on the defensive side of the ledger. LCA Opening: The Red Wings’ new arena opening with Kid Rock is too perfect, but in a very sad way. You’ll have to listen to find out how. Season Expectations / Excitement Level: We’re going to need a strong positivity corner after this one, I promise you that. We’ll find a way to entertain ourselves watching this season, one way or another. Positivity Corner: We love you all and want you to know how great things can be, even in down times. Reader Questions: You asked, we answered about ribs in Kansas City. This was a good section. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
