Serving the Lord, Not In My Way, But the Way the Lord Wants: Implications for Us! In the first reading (not included within this media) Samuel anointed Saul as king. A few days later we hear about how he was rejected and replaced. How quickly the mighty can fall. In between those points in scripture, we hear what it means to serve the Lord. Saul was rejected, not because he was incompetent. He was rejected . . . because he was disobedient. The Lord gave Saul victory under the command to get rid of everything. The Homily goes into further details. The Lord said one thing. Man, in this case Saul, says he will be obedient to God his way . . . and was therefore, not fully obedient. Israel says I will serve you . . . in the way I chose. That is unacceptable to the Lord. The Lord says to Samuel . . . it is time to select a new king. This person will be after MY own Heart, says the Lord. However imperfect this new king will be . . . he has the Heart of the Lord. David’s heart serves the Lord. Hear the implications for us! --------------------------------------------------------- Image: King David – the King of Israel: Dutch Painter: Gerard van Honthorst:  1622 King David playing the harp.
