Are you able to take the time to do this? Are you rested enough? Are you in the place where you are willing to do the difficult thing to get to better times? Setting the Stage: Create a place to take data Make your bathroom fabulous Get cool underwear Get a timer/can use your phone Catch up on laundry and sleep 2 weeks before Start taking data – give your child a drink/try to notice when they void Get a feel for what their number is. Day/week before Get salty preferred snacks and drinks Make sure your schedule is cleared. Make party trips to visit the potty – no demands Day 1 Make the world fun for your child and yourself Feed salty snacks – give fluids – set timer equation is 1 minute less than the average # of minutes before they usually urinate. When timer goes off – party to the bathroom Put them on potty Set timer for 5 minutes If they go CELEBRATE!!!!! Then repeat If they don’t do – take them off, help them redress reset the timer for 3 minutes – do something outside the bathroom that is fun. When the time goes off – party to the bathroom Put them on potty Set timer for 5 minutes If they go CELEBRATE!!!!! Then repeat If they don’t do – take them off, help them redress reset the timer for 3 minutes – do something outside the bathroom that is fun. If they have an accident – there is no reaction, no words, no looks – clean it up and start over. Once they are getting it fairly often, SWITCH TOILETS!!!! Go places! Take the timer – do the same steps as home. It is all about consistency!
