Hottest day on record: How did the UK cope?

As the UK sweltered in a record-breaking heatwave this week, schools closed, runways melted and train tracks buckled. And on the day the country recorded a temperature above 40C for the first time, fires destroyed homes and buildings across Greater London. What more will need to be done so the country’s infrastructure can cope in future heatwaves?
