The Future of Crime Solving: A Conversation with Former Naval Criminal Investigative Service Agent Joe Kennedy on Cold Cases, Deployments, and Working for NCIS

Joe Kennedy was a longtime agent for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, or the NCIS. The NCIS is tasked with investigating criminal activities involving the United States Navy and the Marine Corps. So he investigated cases all around the world. Today, Joe works with the Carolina Cold Case Consortium and is devoted to helping solve cold cases. He is also working with eSleuth.

This interview is part of our new occasional recurring segment, the Future of Crime Solving. It’s a series where we will talk to different figures associated with eSleuth AI. eSleuth AI offers a suite of new tools crafted to help eliminate backlogs and get cases solved — cold and otherwise. It employs artificial intelligence and machine learning technology, and its systems are Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Justice Information System compliant. To help convince law enforcement departments around the country that eSleuth is the future of crime solving, the company is working with an impressive array of former law enforcement officials. And they’re willing to talk to us.

If you're a law enforcement official curious about eSleuth AI, email Scot at sthomasson@esleuth.ai or check out their website at: https://www.esleuth.ai/

We’re true crime people, so we all double check the house before bed — locks on doors, locked windows, nobody skulking outside or in the basement, the works. That’s part of our routine. But we also know we have a home security system that can help prevent crimes before they even happen.

Simplisafe is a home security system that stops intruders before they even break in. We trust them with our home, with our peace of mind. Their AI-powered cameras lock onto threats outside of your home. If an intruder approaches, their live agents don’t just sit around. They get on there and confront the person. They sound alarms. Flash lights. Let them know the police are on the way.

That way, you can protect your home and stop crime in its tracks. We’ve been loyal Simplisafe fans for years. We love the flexibility. The lack of contracts and fees. We love that it’s great for renters and homeowners. We love that it’s been named one of the “Best Home Security Systems” by U.S. News & World Report for five years in a row. It’s a great service and it makes us feel safe.

So protect your home with SimpliSafe and get 50% off any new system for a limited time. Just go to SIMPLISAFE dot com slash MSHEET. That’s SIMPLISAFE dot com slash MSHEET. There’s No Safe Like SimpliSafe

1. Burger Chef Murders Trailer: The Murder Sheet Presents "You Never Can Forget"

On November 17, 1978, four young employees began the night shift at the Burger Chef restaurant in Speedway, Indiana. By midnight, they had vanished, never to be seen alive again. Two days later, their bodies were found in a wooded area in Johnson County. To this day, no one has been convicted of the Burger Chef murders, as they came to be known. But the young victims — Jayne, Ruth, Danny, and Mark — and the brutal way they died have not been forgotten. The unsolved case continues to haunt loved ones, investigators, and the communities of Speedway and the greater Indianapolis area. Brand new podcast Murder Sheet will launch with an inaugural six-part miniseries delving into the Burger Chef murders. Titled "You Never Can Forget," the miniseries will debut on November 17. Cohosts Áine Cain and Kevin Greenlee will be taking a close look at the facts of the case, and a number of twisty, fraught theories that have arisen over the years. Kevin is a lawyer from Broad Ripple who began researching the case in 2016 after coming across the online community dedicated to discussing the murders. He now represents the sister of one of the victims. Áine is a journalist from New York who became obsessed with the case while writing a feature story on the murders for Insider.  After the six-part series concludes, Murder Sheet will continue as a weekly podcast focusing on different crimes and topics in the world of criminal justice. The show's first season will cover the phenomenon of restaurant homicides and shine a spotlight on the violent underbelly of the fast food industry. The podcast's title is a reference to the spreadsheet of around 1,000 homicides involving restaurants, bars, and other eateries that Kevin and Áine have compiled, starting with 17th century tavern shootouts and ending with the modern rage slayings that often occur in burger joints.Follow the Murder Sheet on social media for the latest on the Burger Chef murders and future episodes: FacebookTwitterInstagramAnd send tips to murdersheet@gmail.com.
