Every single one of those records was against the odds of coming from a council estate near Liverpool, derogatory labels in the press calling her ‘Sumo Spice’, and music industry management that didn’t believe in her and sought to objectify her. But she persevered and helped to build the biggest girlband of all time, as well as one of the most successful solo careers of any group member ever.
