Largest Art Heist in Canadian History | The Skylight Caper (1972)

Episode 46 - In the early morning hours of September 4, 1972, three masked men entered the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts through the roof via a skylight and successfully stole valuable paintings, figurines and jewelry and escaped into the night. Despite another heist occurring in Montreal already that weekend, this heist’s bold execution and mysterious aftermath captured global attention and imaginations across Canada. Decades later, the identities of the perpetrators and the whereabouts of most stolen pieces remain unknown. This case came to be known as the Skylight Caper and is officially Canada’s largest art heist. In this episode we are going to examine the case, look at the aftermath, and determine what might have happened to the stolen items.
