Hey friends! Happy New Year! We hope you've enjoyed some much-deserved time out with your loved ones. Today we are re-sharing one of our favourite episodes of 2019 - our In Conversation episode with Natalie Fornasier. We first came across Natalie and her story when she sat down with Byrdie.com.au in 2018 for a piece titled “I’m 24 and Living With Advanced Melanoma—This Is My Story”. Natalie’s words and insights in that interview were what informed our very last segment of Shameless in 2018, and what pushed us to change our own relationship with sun tanning forever. We had Nat as a guest at our Sydney live show in November, and are so lucky to now call her a friend. Nat is now battling stage four melanoma after the cancer spread to her small intestine and bowel. Given today marks a new year and a new decade, we thought now is the time to help Nat champion her message again. So, Team Shameless has enlisted the help of some of Australia's most influential and recognisable women to make a pledge toward sun safety in 2020. You can watch our #IPledge video on our Instagram page @shamelesspodcast at midday today. The Pledge: Did you know melanoma is the third most common cancer in Australian women? It kills more young people in our country than any other form of cancer. So in 2020, I pledge: To wear sunscreen. To get my tan from a can. And to take notice of my skin - and do whatever I can to protect it. I pledge to get my skin checked if I feel like something’s wrong, or if it’s been a while. To never glamourise sun tanning to my followers. And to educate myself and others about the risks. In 2020, I’m going to be safe in the sun. And I encourage you to do the same. Most people would introduce Carly as a disability advocate, and they'd be right, but she’s also so much more than that: she’s an author, a podcaster, and a generally wonderful human being. In this chat, which took place in the very trendy suburb of Brunswick, we talk about friendships and loneliness, what it's like to bump into your school bully, and the people who try to "cure" her genetic condition. Buy Carly's marvellous new book Say Hello (really, it's amazing, do it right now) right here: https://www.booktopia.com.au/say-hello-carly-findlay/prod9781460755037.html Follow Carly on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/carlyfindlay/?hl=en And on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/carlyfindlay/ Until Monday, friends! Guess who's back, back again. We are back. Don't tell Zara I wrote this. Guess who's back, guess who's back, guess who's back, guess who's back. YEP! It's 2019 and we are keen to talk about a few things, like: Why is Em Rusciano mad? What in the WHAT is a v-string bikini? Does mummy blogging cross the line? And did Kendall Jenner just save the world with a Proactiv ad? (Hint for that last one: no.) Em Rusciano's interview with Offspring is here. Bianca O'Neill on Beginning Boutique and body diversity is here. Mich's review of the v-string bikini will be posted in our FB group when it goes live. Join here. Christie Tate for the Washington Post is here, while Pandora Syke's column is here. We also talked about Darlena Cunha's writing for Sydney Morning Herald and Elizabeth Bastos for New York Times. And, finally, click here for Danielle Young's take on bad publicity and the Kardashians. That's all for now! We will be dropping our In Conversation episode on Thursday. Until then, subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on Insta! BYE xxxxxx This episode of Shameless was produced by Michelle Andrews.
