In 2020 #IPledge

Hey friends! Happy New Year! We hope you've enjoyed some much-deserved time out with your loved ones. Today we are re-sharing one of our favourite episodes of 2019 - our In Conversation episode with Natalie Fornasier. We first came across Natalie and her story when she sat down with Byrdie.com.au in 2018 for a piece titled “I’m 24 and Living With Advanced Melanoma—This Is My Story”. Natalie’s words and insights in that interview were what informed our very last segment of Shameless in 2018, and what pushed us to change our own relationship with sun tanning forever. We had Nat as a guest at our Sydney live show in November, and are so lucky to now call her a friend. Nat is now battling stage four melanoma after the cancer spread to her small intestine and bowel. Given today marks a new year and a new decade, we thought now is the time to help Nat champion her message again. So, Team Shameless has enlisted the help of some of Australia's most influential and recognisable women to make a pledge toward sun safety in 2020. You can watch our #IPledge video on our Instagram page @shamelesspodcast at midday today. The Pledge: Did you know melanoma is the third most common cancer in Australian women? It kills more young people in our country than any other form of cancer. So in 2020, I pledge: To wear sunscreen. To get my tan from a can. And to take notice of my skin - and do whatever I can to protect it. I pledge to get my skin checked if I feel like something’s wrong, or if it’s been a while. To never glamourise sun tanning to my followers. And to educate myself and others about the risks. In 2020, I’m going to be safe in the sun. And I encourage you to do the same. To support Call Time On Melanoma, visit www.calltimeonmelanoma.com.au, or follow them on Instagram @calltimeonmelanoma. To follow Nat on Instagram, search @nataliefornasier.

Fact checking a "healing princess"

Fact checking a "healing princess"

It’s episode 9! Bloody hell, doesn’t time fly? This week we have a little chat on the announcement of Ali Oetjen as Australia’s newest Bachelorette and our… mixed feelings about it. Also, the problematic wellness influencer who says she treated her precancerous cells naturally, and the glittery phenomenon that is dubbed “the party of the year”, the MET gala. UPDATE: After recording this episode we also received a statement from Dr Brad McKay, a family doctor from East Sydney Doctors, about Sarah Stevenson's claims. He told us: "Promoting a healthy lifestyle is admirable, but believing you’ve healed your cervical dysplasia “naturally” is not grounded in reality... "Your immune system is extremely complex and you really don’t have much control over it. It’s narcissistic to believe that you can heal your cervix with positive thoughts and green smoothies... Declaring that you’ve healed your cervix “naturally” is not only ignorant, but it’s also insulting to those people who have been diagnosed with cervical dysplasia or cervical cancer. It implies that if you require treatment you haven’t prayed hard enough, haven’t thought positively enough, or haven’t eaten the right nutritional supplement. Sometimes bad things happen and it’s not helpful or accurate to play a blame game... "I’m glad to hear that her high grade cervical lesion is now a low grade lesion, but it’s dangerous to recommend others follow a “CIN3 routine” based on her anecdotal experience." The making of a reality TV villain

The making of a reality TV villain

HEY. Welcome back! We’re so happy to have you here. We’re going just a liiiiiiittle bit rogue this week and changing things up. Yeeeep, we’re interviewing former Bachelor star Jen Hawke - also known as Australia’s favourite reality TV villain - about the power of the producer. Can a reality TV producer create a villain, we ask her, or do they need something to actually play with in order to craft their character? PLUS, fashion blogger Gary Pepper Girl published the intricate details of her wedding prep on Into The Gloss and wowee do we have some thoughts and feelings to unpack. If you’re interested in checking out some of the articles we pointed to in the show, you can here: Amanda Sherker on the 7 Ways The Beauty Industry Convinced Women That They Weren't Good Enough for The Huffington Post. Jia Tolentino on The Year That Skin Care Became a Coping Mechanism for The New Yorker. Caitlin Fitzsimmons on how much Australians really spend on their weddings for the Sydney Morning Herald. Going deep on Khloe Kardashian and 'Third Trimester Tristan'

Going deep on Khloe Kardashian and 'Third Trimester Tristan'

OH MY GOODNESS. This week we obviously needed to debrief on the Khloe Kardashian/Tristan Thompson cheating saga. We went deeeeeep (and got a little fiery with each other along the way) on how much sympathy should we have for Khloe, and the men like Tristan who just can’t keep it in their pants. Also: we cover the cultural phenomenon that is Coachella, and the musical phenomenon that is Cardi B. Zara referenced a heaaaaap of stuff today that she read about Cardi B this week: You can try the GQ profile here, The Guardian profile here, the Pitchfork piece here on why her number one matters and the Splinter News piece here about Cardi B, Taylor Swift and race relations in Trump's America. Celebrity divorce and the great Instagram lie

Celebrity divorce and the great Instagram lie

Well, it’s been a big week in the world of celebrity divorce after Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum announced their “loving” split to the cries of love being dead. So why is it we feel so viscerally about break-ups like this? Is it because we feel we’ve being sold a lie about what a relationship and a break up looks like? Plus, a radio host’s orgasm story that was a little bit too much to stomach and the atrocity that is Meghan Markle daring to have a grey hair. Zara recommended two pieces from Man Repeller this week, one on love and the beauty of its dullness which you can find here, and another on the concept of a friendship complex which you can find here. If you’re also willing to give Marie Claire a click for that atrocious grey hair article, you can right here. (But don’t tell them we sent you.) And if you haven’t read it, or it’s been a while, check out the history-making Vanity Fair profile of Meghan Markle here. You're so welcome to join the conversation in our Facebook group! Georgia Love is tearing the whole thing down

Georgia Love is tearing the whole thing down

HELLO! This week we're doing things a little differently - we're interviewing Georgia Love! The journalist and former Bachelorette issued a blistering tweet to a women's tabloid mag this week, so we had a chat with her about it. Also, we need to get to the bottom of why a celebrity BIT BEYONCE ON THE FACE and whether or not it's creepy for Scott Disick to be dating a teenager. Oops! Britney did it again. And again

Oops! Britney did it again. And again

HOLA! Welcome back. Bachelor in Paradise started this week, so naturally, we took it upon ourselves to debrief all about the show's premiere. Michelle thinks Davey and Flo will be the first to have sex, Zara thinks she's wrong and mostly, we talk a whole lot of crap about a show that's just a whole lot of crap. Loveable crap, that is. We also deep-dive the return of Britney Spears - considering she randomly re-surfaced in our news cycle TWICE this week - and discuss the media's troubling response to a story about Robin Williams and his larrikin antics on the set of Mork & Mindy. Can we call it sexual harassment when it's not, by definition, sexual harassment? Feel free to come and join the conversation in our Facebook group! Katy Perry kissed a boy and we didn't like it

Oh hey there! This week, we just needed to debrief about the kiss that landed Katy Perry in some rather hot water, the WAGs who build their careers off the back of heartbreak, and the incredible resurgence of Jennifer Garner. Speaking of Jen Garner, let us know what you think her quotes meant in this Vanity Fair profile: https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2016/02/jennifer-garner-talks-kids-career-ben-affleck You're so welcome to join the conversation in our Facebook group!
