BOOK CLUB: The Yield

Link to this episode in the new The Shameless Book Club feed: https://open.spotify.com/episode/1uqMITiWOWN4yR5Uz5ierO?si=043dae8ac94c478b Correction: An earlier edit of this episode said the fictional town of Massacre Plains was based in the Northern Territory of Australia. This is incorrect - the town is based in New South Wales. HELLOOOOO BOOK CLUB PALS! This month, we’re discussing the 2020 Miles Franklin Literary Award winner, The Yield, by Tara June Winch. The novel tells the story of a woman who has returned home after the passing of her Poppy, Albert Gondiwindi, and felt like her life had passed her by ever since her sister, Jedda, vanished as a child. August’s perspective is interspersed with that of Albert, via his almost diary-like Wiradjuri dictionary entries, and a letter from 1915, written by the German reverend Ferdinand Greenleaf, who established a mission in Massacre Plains. Today on the show, Mich, Zara and Annabelle talk about the characters they adored, the scenes most vivid for them, and the importance of the Wiradjuri language. "But what about me?"

"But what about me?"

Hiya! Coming up on today’s show: “What about me?” That is the overwhelming theme within so many comment sections these days, and we wanted to deep it. Why do we feel like absolutely everything we see on the internet has to be tailored individually to us? Is this just the natural reaction to how ultra-personalised our algorithms have become? She needs a higher bar! Preach!

Hiya!  On today’s show: Louis Tomlinson’s interview on the DOAC might just be the best celebrity interview we’ve ever listened to, Dolly Parton posted a… proof-of-life video but more on that later, and we might have our ‘first egg on us for egging ourselves too early’ situation on our hands, because Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau very much look like a couple!!!! Then, we share some of Diane Keaton’s most iconic quotes after the news of her passing, and finally, why is Travis Kelce signing Taylor Swift’s CDs lol. This week, Zara recommended Louis Theroux interviewing Ed Sheeran. And here is the link to Louis Tomlinson on The Diary of a CEO. Big thanks to Bumble for making this episode possible. A 'no-strings-attached' donation?

A 'no-strings-attached' donation?

Hello hello!! Coming up on today’s show: On her wedding day, Selena Gomez was photographed holding what appears to be a vape. This reignited a social media frenzy that’s been going on among stan circles for years now; what happened to Selena’s friendship with the woman who gave her an organ? Also, if you are the recipient of a loved one’s organ, do you owe them a certain kind of lifestyle? It’s a moral conundrum we’d like to unpack, and it’s not exactly simple. Few things rarely are!! No thank you I'm busy close the door

Hello! On today’s show: we have quite a few updates to the Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban split story. We go deeper on Taylor Swift’s diss track about Charli XCX. Speaking of drama, what’s up with that feud between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B? A months-old Call Her Daddy interview is copping flak for a curious reason, oh! And did you see! There’s a development to the Coldplay Concert cheating drama that felt like a fever dream in the middle of the year… Big thanks to Mejuri for making this episode possible. Our review of The Life of a Showgirl

Our review of The Life of a Showgirl

Welcome to our review episode of The Life of a Showgirl!!  Is this perhaps the most divisive album of the last few years? Rolling Stone gave it a perfect 5/5, The Guardian a measly 2/5. Oh – and a viral tweet with tens of thousands of likes declared “The Life of a Showgirl is as if Dubai, matcha, pistachio chocolate, Colleen Hoover books, and labubus all had a baby with Al”.  So! What the hell did we make of it? Let’s find out!!! A billionaire's best-selling memoir sparks confusion

A billionaire's best-selling memoir sparks confusion

Hiya! On today’s show: the billionaire, the psychedelics and the best-selling memoir. Amy Griffin was already incredibly wealthy before her best-selling memoir, The Tell. In fact, that wealth and influence might’ve just been the thing that pushed the publishing deal over the line. Now, after everyone from Oprah Winfrey to Gwyneth Paltrow to Reese Witherspoon has endorsed Amy’s book, the New York Times has raised some pretty serious questions about the story within...  This episode of Shameless is brought to you by Four Pillars Gin.
