UC 432: The Power of the Pause: Reframing Fear, Busyness and Self-Belief with Karen Bartholomew

UC 432: The Power of the Pause: Reframing Fear, Busyness and Self-Belief with Karen Bartholomew

In this episode, Cyndi and Kim are joined by women’s empowerment coach Karen Bartholomew, creator of the Pause Method. Karen shares how intentional reflection and conscious pauses can help women and leaders gain clarity, break free from limiting beliefs, and take aligned action.

Karen discusses her personal journey from single motherhood and an unfulfilling career to becoming a life coach and mentor to leaders. Through her retreats and coaching programs, she now helps women reconnect with themselves, challenge old narratives, and create more purposeful and fulfilling lives.

The conversation explores how fear is often rooted in past experiences and subconscious stories that no longer serve us. Karen explains how identifying these patterns can help people move beyond self-imposed limitations. Together, the hosts reflect on the modern culture of busyness and how overwhelm can sometimes stem from learned patterns or beliefs about productivity and self-worth.

Karen introduces her P.A.U.S.E. framework, which guides individuals through recognising patterns, accepting themselves without judgment, reframing limiting beliefs, and embodying a more expansive mindset. The discussion also highlights the importance of self-care, mindfulness, and creating safe spaces for women to rediscover joy, rebuild confidence, and explore personal growth.

Throughout the episode, the conversation touches on societal shifts, parenting, childhood narratives, and the power of breathwork and journaling as practical tools for emotional awareness and resilience.

Karen also shares insights from her retreats and upcoming programs, which support women in developing new habits and perspectives over a structured 90-day journey.

This inspiring conversation reminds us that sometimes the most powerful step forward begins with simply taking a pause.

Quotes I was exhausted all the time, something had to change. The Pause Method helps women get freedom from their past. There can be a lot of fear of the unknown but we can go back and look at where the fear is coming from and then unravel it. We manipulate our world to get what we want. What story are you telling yourself right now and is it a truth? You don’t know until you don’t. Awareness of self is the first step. The space between the trigger and the response is what we explore. The Universe gives us everything we ask for. Horrible moments can set us up for something better. What you resist gets reinforced. In uncertainty there is pure possibility. Embody is a practice not a thought. We have to pause and create a new narrative. The Universe will bring you everything you need to show you the unhealed parts of you. I only have control of my own reaction. If only we could response rather than react. The best way to change a relationship is to do the work. Meet people where they are at. When you give compassion and empathy there is a more real connection. Nothing is good or bad – it is the thinking that makes it so. PAUSE – P – Pattern recognition, A – Acknowledge and Accept, U – Unwind and untangle, S – Shift and Structure, E – Embody and expand
