008: Eric Carcich | University of Massachusetts - Finding the right fit in college recruiting

In this episode, Eric Carcich, Head Coach for the University of Massachusetts women's rowing program, provides a master class on college recruiting, from timelines to scholarship opportunities, and the importance of building relationships with athletes to find the right fit for them.

Eric discusses his processes for leveraging his staff of 5 coaches to find the best athletes for their "family", how scholarship money can cloudy the waters and the importance of not chasing the money, why 2k's shouldn't be a high school athletes only focus, and intangible qualities they look for in athletes right from the start of the recruiting process that can outweigh some of their physical attributes.

More on Coach Eric Carcich...

  • Head Coach for the University of Massachusetts women’s rowing program (2019 - Present)
  • Head Coach for Cornell University women’s rowing (2018 - 2019)
  • Head Coach for George Washington University women’s rowing (2009 - 2018)
  • Assistant Coach for the University of Pennsylvania men's rowing (2006 - 2009)
  • Assistant Coach for the Yale University lightweight program (1999 - 2006)

I'd recommend this podcast for athletes and coaches who want a crash course in college recruiting for rowing, how to build a program the right way, and amazing advice for how to best position yourself as an aspiring college rower.
