Empowering Survivors: The Journey of Be A Shero and Its Impact on the Community

In this episode of The HEALS Pod, I had the privilege of welcoming Ginger Land Van Buren and Kimberly Miles from the Be A Shero Foundation, an organization dedicated to combating human trafficking and supporting survivors in our community. Our conversation delved deep into the alarming realities of human trafficking, particularly in Las Vegas, which is currently ranked second in the nation for this issue.

We began by discussing the misconceptions surrounding human trafficking, particularly the notion that it only affects vulnerable populations in foreign countries. Ginger and Kimberly highlighted that a staggering 90% of trafficking cases in Las Vegas involve local children, often lured through social media and online interactions. Kimberly, a survivor of trafficking herself, shared her journey and the motivations behind founding the Be A Shero Foundation. The foundation's mission is encapsulated in its name, which stands for "Boldly Elevating Awareness Supporting Humanity Equality Rights." This mission reflects their commitment to not only raise awareness but also to provide tangible support to those affected by trafficking.

Throughout our discussion, we explored the various programs offered by the Be A Shero Foundation, including the Shero Sanctuary for housing and basic needs, the Shero Shield educational program, and the Spirit program, which incorporates holistic and art therapy. These initiatives aim to provide comprehensive support to survivors, helping them regain stability and confidence in their lives.
