Why Aladdin Is Disney's Best Live-Action Remake

Did Disney actually improve Aladdin?

In this episode of the Friends of Disney Podcast, we're comparing Disney's animated Aladdin (1992) to the live-action Aladdin (2019) and discussing why this remake succeeded where so many others struggled.

From Will Smith's unique take on Genie to Jasmine's expanded role as a future ruler of Agrabah, we explore the biggest differences between the two versions and whether the live-action adaptation improved upon the original story.

We discuss Robin Williams vs Will Smith, the new songs and expanded character development, Jasmine's political storyline, Jafar's motivations, and what makes a successful Disney live-action remake.

Along the way, we dive into leadership, character growth, adaptation philosophy, and why Aladdin remains one of Disney's most beloved stories regardless of which version you prefer.

Topics Discussed:

• Aladdin (1992) vs Aladdin (2019)
• Robin Williams vs Will Smith as Genie
• Why Jasmine feels stronger in the live-action version
• The biggest story changes between both films
• Jafar and Disney villains
• Disney's live-action remake strategy
• Leadership, power, and responsibility in Aladdin
• Which version ultimately comes out on top
