13. The One Where Your Period Is A Pain

13. The One Where Your Period Is A Pain

If you’ve ever sat at your desk with a heating pad on your lap because you were trying to work through painful period cramps… or your period clothes are all black and roomy enough for that super pad you now need to wear to not bleed through everything, today’s episode is for you.

This is the The One Where Your Period Is A Pain and it’s a must listen to, for any woman who’s been told that her painful or heavy periods are normal and she just needs an Advil and to suck it up.

Even though the average woman will have about 480 periods in her lifetime, most women don’t know much about what’s considered normal.

In this episode, I’m diving deep into the truth about menstrual pain and heavy periods. Did you know that severe menstrual pain isn't normal? Needing to pop Advil for cramps might be a sign of an underlying condition like endometriosis.

And that’s not the only way your period can be a pain. If your period makes your bathroom look like a crime scene, it’s time to talk about heavy periods. Not only are they literally draining, but heavy periods also put you at risk for iron deficiency, making you more tired, depressed, and anxious. And sadly, women are waiting a long time to seek out help when they’re tired. And when they do finally see their doctor, they are likely to be dismissed or misdiagnosed.

Key takeaways:

  • Period pain isn’t normal and may be a sign of an underlying condition such as endometriosis
  • Heavy periods are common, especially in perimenopause and can put you more at risk for iron deficiency
  • Iron deficiency affects up to 30% of women causing fatigue, increased risk for anxiety and depression and heavy periods are often part of the problem
Iron deficiency is the #1 nutrition deficiency worldwide and it’s making too many women exhausted, cold, depressed and losing hair by the handful. In my experience, iron deficiency is the #1 physical reason why women are tired. That’s why I created the Iron Deficiency Fix, an online course where I’ll teach you everything I tell my patients to do to help fix their iron deficiency.
