#111 - Archie Thompson - Life Off The Pitch

Archie Thompson is one of the most beloved players in A-League history. He made 224 appearances for Melbourne Victory, scoring 90 goals across his 11 seasons, including 5 goals in the famous inaugural 2005 A-League Grand Final. He famously scored 13 goals in a World Record 31-0 win for Australia against American Samoa.

These days you'll find Archie as part of the A-League coverage for Paramount as well as the Australian F1 Grand Prix and Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

Archie voiced his views into why players should be given more freedom in showing their personalities to the public. And he didn't hold back!

He talked about the 2006 World Cup campaign with the Socceroos and what really happened off the pitch. Including some wild parties in London.

Archie shared what it was like not getting paid when playing overseas in Belgium, and the difficulty of not being in the Manager's plans. He even told us a crazy story of being dropped to train with the under 12's!

But what was really refreshing was the way he has gone about life and listening to him speak his mind. Including how he sees the current state of the A-League and why it has been so tough competing with other codes like AFL and NRL.

Archie was raw, honest and really spoke from the heart. Even if you aren't a football fan, the insight Archie gives is absolutely incredible.

So enjoy our chat with Australian Football Royalty, Archie Thompson.
