No one criticizes themselves with the same determination as they criticize others.

No one criticizes themselves with the same determination as they criticize others.

This phrase connects us with The Law of the Double Standard.
We are all guilty of "Fundamental Attribution Error." We tend to be the defense attorney for our own mistakes, but the harsh prosecutor for everyone else's.
1. Intentions vs. Actions We judge ourselves by our intentions ("I didn't mean to hurt you, I was just stressed"), but we judge others strictly by their actions ("You did this, so you are bad"). We demand understanding for our context but refuse to give it to others.
2. The Ego’s Distraction Criticizing yourself is painful; it requires humility and the hard work of change. Criticizing others is easy and feels good; it gives the ego a temporary sense of superiority. Pointing out dirt on someone else’s face is the best way to ignore the dirt on your own.
3. Projection Psychologically, we often attack in others what we secretly dislike in ourselves. The lazy person hates laziness in others; the liar hates liars. Your loudest criticisms are often a confession of your own struggles.
Golden Rule: Be as lenient with others as you are with yourself, and as strict with yourself as you are with others. Reverse the lens.
