Drive My Carr (guest: Eric Moody)

Drive My Carr (guest: Eric Moody)

As we enter July and begin the run-up to the NFL season, host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) welcomes in Eric Moody of ESPN (@EricNMoody). Eric and Pat discuss the mysterious but attractive Chiefs WR corps, how to approach Nick Chubb and Amari Cooper for fantasy in light of Deshaun Watson’s uncertain status, what to do with Michael Thomas, whether Ezekiel Elliott is worth drafting, and what Derek Carr’s ceiling could be now that he’s reuniting with former college teammate Davante Adams. The Scott Fish Bowl kicked off with a handful of live drafts last weekend, and the online drafts start next week, so Eric and Pat dive into SFB strategy and how to handle the QB position.

Eric talks about leaving the financial services industry to work at ESPN full time, and he and Pat weigh in on the new season of Stranger Things (without dropping any spoilers, of course). There’s also some conversation about music, as Pat asks Eric to name the greatest American band of all time. Eric and Pat share their enthusiasm for Trevor Lawrence and their hope for Russell Wilson. There’s some discussion about Tim Patrick, Elijah Moore, and Brandon Aiyuk. And before he says goodbye, Eric lists some of his favorite draft targets and fades for 2022.

If You Don’t Like It, Move to Canada (Guest: Justin Boone)

If You Don’t Like It, Move to Canada (Guest: Justin Boone)

It’s a special Election Day edition of the podcast! Host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) leads off with some political discussion. Well, not really. But he mentioned something about “Family Ties,” which is reason enough to listen. Pat is then joined by ranker extraordinaire Justin Boone of theScore (@JustinBoone) for a chat about the Raiders’ train-wreck defense, the ramifications of A.J. Green’s injury, Leonard Fournette’s return, the Bears’ RBs, D.J. Moore’s about-face, and which Eagles RB has the brightest outlook. Toronto-based Justin talks about some Canadian matters, including his home city, his former gig in the CFL, Justin Trudeau’s boxing skills and, of course, poutine. Then, Pat and Justin cover some of the more interesting names on the waiver wire this week, including Lamar Jackson, Elijah McGuire, Mike Davis and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. A Halloween Visit to the Black Hole (Guest: John Evans)

A Halloween Visit to the Black Hole (Guest: John Evans)

It’s Halloween week, so it’s only fitting that this week’s guest is John Evans (@JohnF_Evans), a Raiders fan who declared his allegiance to the team as a child after being captivated by televised images of the Black Hole’s costume-clad denizens. Not only is John the co-host of the excellent X’s and Y’s Podcast along with Liz Loza, he’s also the co-host of a horror-movie podcast called The Darkest Hour. John and Pat discuss the Colts’ surprisingly good offensive line and its impact on Andrew Luck and Marlon Mack. Then they talk about the origins of John’s Raiders fandom before moving on to an even more frightening topic: marriage. Pat and John cover some hard-to-peg players and their rest-of-season fantasy outlooks, including Russell Wilson, Alex Collins, Dion Lewis, Aaron Jones, Sammy Watkins and the Detroit receivers. Then, with the dreaded six-team Byepocalypse upon us, Pat and John go over some intriguing waiver wire options, including Elijah McGuire, Josh Adams, Keke Coutee, DaVante Parker and D.J. Moore. Kickin’ It Old-School (Guest: Jody Smith)

Kickin’ It Old-School (Guest: Jody Smith)

Trades, injuries, crazy touchdown variance – the last few days have been pretty eventful in the fantasy football universe, and host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) talks through some of it with this week’s guest, Jody Smith (@JodySmithNFL) of FantasyPros.com and CBS Sportsline. As two graybeards of fantasy football, Pat and Jody also reminisce about the good old days, discussing how they started playing fantasy football back in the pen-and-paper era. They also talk a little about scoring formats, comparing the relative merits of standard, PPR and (gasp!) touchdown-only. Pat and Jody then dig into the two the big trades that went down recently. They talk about Nick Chubb’s outlook as the lead back in Cleveland, what Jacksonville does with Leonard Fournette, T.J. Yeldon and the newly acquired Carlos Hyde, and how the deal that sent Amari Cooper to Dallas affects the fantasy prospects of various Cowboys and Raiders. Jody discusses how members of the Twitter fantasy football community helped his son with a collection he’d been working on, and about watching Houston pull together after Hurricane Harvey roared through town. Pat and Jody then close the show with a little bit of talk about Jody’s hometown Texans, including whether D’Onta Foreman might eventually pose a threat to Lamar Miller (who spent his Sunday crushing Pat’s soul in one of his home leagues). Switching into Airplane Mode (Guest: Chris Raybon)

Switching into Airplane Mode (Guest: Chris Raybon)

Host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) welcomes in guest Chris Raybon (@ChrisRaybon) of the Action Network, who recently wrote a mini-memoir titled “How I Quit My Accounting Job and Got Paid to Watch Sports.” He talks about leaving the world accounting, geeking out on Strat-O-Matic Football, and having his introduction to Madden 2004 thwarted by a girl and a blackout. Chris and Pat then discuss some fantasy football philosophy. Namely: How much do offensive systems matter, and do defenses really matter? Why is Chris sometimes referred to as “Young Airplane Mode”? He explains the nickname, he talks about a recent weekend in the wilderness and the ensuing quest for a Wi-Fi signal, and then he lists his top three hip-hop artists (plus a few honorable mentions) and tells us where he stands on Kanye West. Chris and Pat wrap up the show by discussing what sort of effect Mark Ingram’s return will have on Alvin Kamara, whether Odell Beckham Jr. owners should be nervous, and whether Alshon Jeffery’s triumphant return is legit. A Trip to the Library (Guest: Ken Griggs)

A Trip to the Library (Guest: Ken Griggs)

Shhhhh! Can’t you see this is a library? But this is Dexter’s Library, so a little noise is OK, and if you want to enjoy a craft cocktail and spark up a doobie, that’s OK, too. After talking briefly about Jay Ajayi, Drew Brees and Craig Counsell, host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) welcomes in guest Ken Griggs (Dexters_Library), A beloved bon vivant of the Twitterverse and a gifted writer who pens the outstanding weekly Smoke ’Em, Sit ’Em column for TwoQBs.com. Ken talks about his year in fantasy football so far, his writing background and his ill-fated tryst with Peyton Barber. Ken also discusses his transition from urban bartender to rural chicken farmer, and he shares a couple of good celebrity stories from his bartending days. He and Pat also talk about marijuana and its greater social acceptance these days, and Pat asks Ken to make a “Sophie’s Choice” decision between alcohol and weed. Then it’s time for waiver discussion, with takes on Jameis Winston, Wendell Smallwood, Alfred Blue, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and more. And finally, Ken and Pat discuss which head coach most deserves to be fired. JuJu’s Beginning and Howard’s End (Guest: Michael Salfino)

JuJu’s Beginning and Howard’s End (Guest: Michael Salfino)

Please try to tolerate host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) during a brief but annoying introduction as he revels in the Milwaukee Brewers’ division title and treasonously gloats about winning money betting against America in the Ryder Cup. Then it’s on to this week’s guest, Michael Salfino of The Athletic (@MichaelSalfino), who explains why JuJu Smith-Schuster, not Antonio Brown, is the Steelers’ best receiver, then talks about what to expect from Le’Veon Bell if, as has been reported, he returns for Week 7. Salfino, a lifelong Jets fan, then discusses Todd Bowles, Sam Darnold, what sort of fantasy value Quincy Enunwa has, and which Jets running back he prefers. In addition to his fantasy work, Salfino also writes about rock music for Paste Magazine, and he and Fitzmaurice talk about the Beatles, the Stones, and who should be on rock’s Mount Rushmore. There’s also a brief conversation about bowling that includes Salfino’s explanation of why Milwaukee is for bowlers what Coors Field is for hitters. Then it’s back to football, with some discussion about Keenan Allen as a sell candidate, Jordan Howard’s near-term prospects, the return of Mark Ingram and Julian Edelman, and how the Rams’ offense resembles another great offense of the past. Salfino also weighs in on a few waiver-wire prospects, including Nyheim Hines, Nick Chubb, Taywan Taylor and Keke Coutee. Fitz on Fantasy Pod: Little O in Big D (Guest: Jen Ryan)

Fitz on Fantasy Pod: Little O in Big D (Guest: Jen Ryan)

We’re three weeks into the new season and as a reward for your perseverance, host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) opens the show by giving you what he guarantees* to be the best piece of fantasy football advice you’ll ever receive. Pat then brings on this week’s guest, Jen Ryan, a.k.a. “Jersey Jen” (@FFdeJENerate), of Football Diehards, CBS SportsLine and Scout Fantasy. Jen discusses her upbringing as a Cowboys fan and her thoughts on this year’s team from a fantasy perspective. Jen also provides boots-on-the-ground fantasy insight into the two New York/New Jersey teams, the Giants and Jets. Will Eli torpedo his teammates’ fantasy value? Is Quincy Enunwa the real deal? (*Not a guarantee) Jen talks about her fantasy background, how she started working for Bob Harris at Football Diehards, and what it’s like to be a woman in the fantasy football media. Pat and Jen run through some of this week’s potential free agent additions, including Baker Mayfield, Buck Allen, Mike Williams, Antonio Callaway and Dallas Goedert. Jen reviews what she got right and wrong in her drafts this year, offers an opinion on whether Jared Goff is a top-10 fantasy QB, and reveals whether she’s optimistic or pessimistic about Josh Gordon’s tenure with the Patriots. A Splash of Cold Water on Mahomes Mania (Guest: Bobby Sylvester)

A Splash of Cold Water on Mahomes Mania (Guest: Bobby Sylvester)

After a wild week of NFL action, host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) opens the show by bringing in producer Colm Kelly (@OvertimeIreland) so that the two Packers fans can discuss the bizarre 29-29 tie with the Vikings in Week 2. They also look at the long-term outlook for Jimmy Graham and analyze the Green Bay RB situation. Pat is then joined by Bobby Sylvester (@bobbyfantasypro) of FantasyPros.com, who throws a splash of cold water on Patrick Mahomes mania and offers a few thoughts on Sammy Watkins’ fantasy value. Pat and Bobby also discuss Alex Smith’s season-long outlook after a disappointing game against the Colts, and the value of Adrian Peterson. Bobby talks about his podcast partnership with Mike Tagliere, criticism of FantasyPros.com, how he managed to run a sub-4.7-second time in the 40-yard dash after losing a bet to Tagliere (hint: it has something to do with jorts), and his career as a high school athlete. Pat and Bobby then circle back to fantasy football, touching on Saquon Barkley, the Minnesota receivers, Keelan Cole, Matt Breida, Quincy Enunwa and more.
