Raising Leaders at Home: Simple Ways to Build Confidence & Responsibility in Kids | Chad Mitchell (Bonus Episode)

Most parents want to raise confident, responsible kids - but very few are shown how to intentionally nurture leadership skills at home. In this episode, Diane sits down with youth leadership specialist J. Chad Mitchell, who has spent more than 30 years coaching, teaching, and mentoring young people. His core message is simple: leadership isn’t about age - it’s a set of skills that can begin developing in childhood and benefit kids for the rest of their lives.

During the conversation, Mitchell shares insights from his upcoming book, Change Your Game: Empowering Young Leaders to Ditch Doubt, Find Their Voice, and Impact the World, along with practical ways families can cultivate communication, initiative, and responsibility in everyday life. Together, they explore why parents should pause before fixing problems for their kids, how peer leadership shapes confidence, and simple ways children can begin practicing leadership at home, at school, and among their friends.
