The Commercial Strategy Behind Great Architecture

The Commercial Strategy Behind Great Architecture

Ackroyd Lowrie is challenging the traditional role of architects by combining design excellence with planning strategy, political engagement, AI innovation and social impact.

In this episode, Oliver Lowry, Co-Founder of Ackroyd Lowrie, explains why securing planning consent is one of the greatest value creation opportunities in real estate and how architects can improve project outcomes by understanding the priorities of local authorities long before an application is submitted.

The conversation explores Ackroyd Lowrie's unique approach to planning strategy, tailoring ESG messaging for different councils, the growing co-living sector, and how the practice is using AI to automate workflows while giving designers more time to focus on creativity. Oliver also shares insights into education, post-occupancy evaluation, virtual reality, apprenticeship programmes and why better collaboration across the construction industry is essential for delivering more successful projects.

Throughout the episode, Oliver shares practical insights into creating better planning outcomes, embracing new technology and designing more commercially successful, socially valuable developments.
