EP278: Rethinking Intelligence: Challenging Misconceptions and Embracing Our Potential with Dr. Rina Bliss

EP278: Rethinking Intelligence: Challenging Misconceptions and Embracing Our Potential with Dr. Rina Bliss

In today's episode, I speak with Dr. Rina Bliss, a leading expert on the nature of intelligence and its cultural significance. Dr. Bliss, who is a professor of sociology at Rutgers University, has spent over a decade researching the misconceptions surrounding intelligence and its assessment. In her latest book, Rethinking Intelligence: A Radical New Understanding of Our Human Potential, Dr. Bliss challenges the conventional wisdom that intelligence is a fixed, innate trait determined solely by genetics. Drawing on cutting-edge research, as well as her own experiences as a mother and a sociologist, she argues that intelligence is a complex and dynamic process shaped by a range of factors, including stress, connection, play, and mindfulness. Join us as we delve into the fascinating world of intelligence and its cultural significance. Dr. Bliss' hope is that this episode challenges us to rethink what we know about ourselves, our children and our human potential.

EP136: The Failings of Fast Fashion with Kat Steck

Join me today as I speak with the woman behind the Junkyard Journals, Kat Steck. This is a first of a two part series on sustainability. This conversation specifically speaks of fast fashion and the downfalls of shopping this way. Please hear me when I say that I need a lot of growth when it comes to this area. I find a quick trip to Old Navy just as convenient as a lot of you. That said, this information is important to hear and the more I dig, the more convicted I become regarding the downfalls of fast fashion. I look forward to you hearing this discussion and your thoughts over on the Minimalist Moms Instagram page! Show Notes for EP136: The Failings of Fast Fashion Enjoy this Podcast? EP129: Simplifying Together [Dividing Tasks & Playing to Strengths in Marriage] with Jessie Ereddia

Today I bring you my conversation with fellow podcaster, Jessie Ereddia. Jessie is a mother of two [almost three] girls, the host of the Mom Empowered Podcast, and an Empowerment Coach. She empowers moms to gain the emotional wellness they need to confidently create the life they've always wanted. This discussion covers the importance of "regrouping" with your spouse regularly to assess how the division of household/child-related tasks are working (or NOT working) in your home and Jessie will give practical advice of how to play on each other's strengths when you are delegating and divvying up who does what! EP128: Navigating Screen-Time Overload [+ My Go-To Ways to Avoid Screens] with Autumn McKay

EP128: Navigating Screen-Time Overload [+ My Go-To Ways to Avoid Screens] with Autumn McKay

Quick note: I recorded this episode back in February 2020. I have a noticeable cold that I remark on in the beginning of my conversation. A lot of my episodes are recorded months before they drop so I apologize for any confusion or mentions of it being winter at the release date (July 2020.) ---- This week, I bring you my conversation with author, Autumn McKay. In 2016, Autumn created her blog, Best Mom Ideas where she began to share tips and tricks she learned throughout her own motherhood journey. The creation of this blog turned into the creation of her books, The Ultimate Toddler Activity Guide and The Ultimate Kindergarten Prep Guide. Today we’ll discuss the benefits of screen-free activities, ways to encourage independent play and how to minimize screen time in the day-to-day. I've also included ten of my go-to ways to avoid screens! It can be tough in extreme temperatures to know how to balance screen time with playtime so my hope is to give you a couple of suggestions you hadn't yet considered! Show Notes for EP128: Navigating Screen-Time Overload [+ Go-To Ways to Avoid Screens] Let’s keep the conversation going on Facebook or Instagram! EP127: 'Spark Joy': Is It Really the Best Approach to Decluttering? with Sarit Sela

EP127: 'Spark Joy': Is It Really the Best Approach to Decluttering? with Sarit Sela

This week I want to have a discussion on the idea of our possessions 'sparking joy' as we declutter. The method comes from author, Marie Kondo in her book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. The idea has become a mainstream thought; however, is it really the best way to approach decluttering? I bring you some personal thoughts on this subject, as well as dive into a discussion with Marie Kondo consultant, Sarit Sela. I wanted to give you the opportunity to make the decision for yourself after listening to two sides of the method! EP126: Adventuring Together: How to Create Spontaneity with Kids with Greta Eskridge

EP126: Adventuring Together: How to Create Spontaneity with Kids with Greta Eskridge

Today I bring you my conversation with author, Greta Eskridge. Greta Eskridge is a second-generation homeschooling mom of four. Her message of deeply connected and intentional parenting began as a blog in her early days of mothering, but quickly blossomed into a writing and speaking career. Now, Greta helps parents and kids create connection in a disconnected world on her website, at the popular Wild and Free homeschool conferences, and at speaking engagements around the country. Today we'll be discussing the subject of her new book, adventuring with kids. In recent years, children are growing up in a world that looks little like the one their parents experienced during childhood. The Internet at their fingertips, cameras on phones that fit in their pockets, schedules jam-packed with extracurriculars. Parents find themselves competing for their children’s attention, at a loss for meaningful ways to cut through the noise and connect. Greta will answer questions such as: how do I get my unadventurous child to feel comfortable stepping out of his/her comfort zone, adventures that are do-able with little children, free adventures to have with our children and more.
