Reductio Ad Absurdum

Reductio Ad Absurdum

There's an old move in logic: reductio ad absurdum. You don't attack an idea. You agree with it, let it be completely true, and follow it all the way to its final destination. If the destination is monstrous, the idea was rotten from the start.

(Works great for teenagers, by the way)

In this episode I run that move on the thing you do to your own symptoms every single day. Because the same escalation you can watch in a moving public policy line is running inside your psyche, brain, and body — and in Germanic New Medicine it has a name: hanging healing. A symptom gets better, then comes back, then comes back again, until you stop believing "better" is even possible for you and call it chronic (or "degenerative").

But the villain isn't the suffering. It's the avoidance of suffering. And the more you run from what you don't want to feel, the more absurd everything gets, until you can't not see it.

The way out isn't a fight. It's a cave. Joseph Campbell said it in one line: the cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek. I've been down that tunnel — all the way to full-blown panic disorder — and I know it has an exit. This episode is the map to where it is.
