Why Comparison Will Destroy Your Progress

Why Comparison Will Destroy Your Progress

What happens when the thing driving you forward is also the thing you’re afraid to lose?

In this episode of The Unbreakable Podcast, Kait Dinunzio sits down with Welsh bodybuilding coach, athlete, filmmaker and former DJ Jay Davies for a conversation about passion, identity, discipline and the fear of going backwards.

Jay’s path wasn’t built from one perfect plan. It unfolded chapter by chapter. From music and DJing to becoming one of the most trusted videographers in UK bodybuilding, and eventually stepping fully into coaching.

Jay shares how a serious illness and suspected sepsis left him hospitalized, caused him to lose 38 pounds in 12 days and pushed him to walk away from bodybuilding. Ten weeks later, he realized that quitting hadn’t brought him peace. The passion was still there.

Together, Kait and Jay get honest about:

- How comparison can steal the joy from your progress
- The fear of returning to an earlier version of yourself
- Why fear can be useful when it’s pointed in the right direction
- Knowing when one chapter of your life has ended
- The identity we build around our careers and passions
- The mental strength developed through bodybuilding
- Why there may be no true ceiling on what you can become
- Choosing your own path instead of copying what looks good online

This may look like a bodybuilding conversation, but it goes far beyond the stage. It’s for anyone rebuilding, reinventing themselves or wondering whether they still have what it takes.

As Jay reminds us: progress only stops when you stop.
