Updates from ASRS: nAMD, DME/DR, and RVO Treatment

Updates from ASRS: nAMD, DME/DR, and RVO Treatment

The treatment landscape for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), diabetic macular edema (DME), diabetic retinopathy (DR), and retinal vein occlusion (RVO) continues to evolve, with ongoing efforts to improve durability and reduce treatment burden. Longer-acting second-generation anti-VEGF therapies, including aflibercept 8 mg and faricimab, have demonstrated the potential to extend dosing intervals while maintaining improved visual and anatomic outcomes across these retinal diseases. Emerging real-world and extension-study data are further informing the long-term safety, efficacy, and clinical application of these therapies. However, adherence barriers, undertreatment, safety considerations, access disparities, and uncertainty regarding patient selection continue to present challenges in achieving optimal outcomes. Clinicians must also understand differences in clinical trial design to critically interpret emerging evidence and apply durability data into individualized patient care. In this Rapid Response CE activity, experts in the field review abstracts presented at The American Society of Retina Specialists and discuss recent clinical evidence on approved second-generation anti-VEGF therapies to support evidence-based management of treatment naïve and previously treated patients with retinal diseases.
