Echo 1953 Is Live Today | Barbara Chapman: Why the OPP's Northern Ontario Plea Is a Big Deal | Mini

Today is the day. Echo 1953, The Hollis Files Book 1, is officially available on Amazon. If you like crime fiction - a private investigator team working a difficult, layered case? Kevin promises it delivers. Every early reader so far has given it five stars, and Kevin is quick to note: he doesn't know any of them. Total strangers. Order on Amazon now.

On the podcast front: we're between Barbara Chapman Part 1 and Part 2, which drops this Friday. If you haven't heard Part 1 yet, Frankford, Ontario, January 23rd, 1984, a 38-year-old mother murdered in her garage after her children left for school, 42 years unsolved, go listen before Friday.

Kevin picks up this week on something worth sitting with before Part 2. The Ontario Provincial Police issued an appeal in November 2024 specifically targeting witnesses in Northern Ontario in connection with Barbara's murder. Barbara was killed in eastern Ontario. A geographically targeted witness appeal in Northern Ontario, 40 years after the fact, is not standard procedure. Law enforcement does not narrow their geographic focus without a reason. Kevin's read: they have a general idea of who is responsible and where that person lives today. That is his interpretation, not a statement from the OPP, but the specificity of that 2024 appeal is worth carrying into Part 2.

Kevin also corrects the record from Part 1: Russell Williams was 20 years old, not 21, in January 1984. And he states this directly: he does not believe Williams is the perpetrator in Barbara's case, does not believe there is evidence to support it, and does not believe law enforcement believes it either. The Williams context is geographic proximity to one of the most prolific violent offenders in Canadian history, nothing more.

Part 2 this Friday: the investigation, the 42-year paper trail, the $50,000 reward, the geography, and why the OPP still believes this case can be solved.

On the Archive Podcast Network: the Halls of Mediocrity now has two episodes live, and Episode 3 drops tomorrow - the full story of two-time World Series champion Chad Curtis, convicted on six counts of criminal sexual conduct. Find it wherever you get your podcasts.
