A Simple Way to Be More Present in Everyday Motherhood

A Simple Way to Be More Present in Everyday Motherhood

In this casual walk-and-talk episode of the EncourageMoment™ Podcast, literally out of breath for part of it! I'm sharing two small practices that are helping me slow down, remember the days, and feel more present in the middle of real life.

With a toddler, one daughter about to start kindergarten and another close to double digits, I have been thinking a lot about how quickly motherhood moves- and how easily the everyday moments can get swallowed up by the running to-do list in our minds.

This is not about putting more pressure on ourselves to "cherish every second." It is about finding simple, realistic ways to witness our lives while we are living them.

In this episode, I share:

  • Why I am rethinking memory keeping as a Type B mom

  • The one-sentence gratitude-journal habit that helps me capture a daily highlight

  • How I use my Notes app to remember moments before writing them down

  • A simple "observational presence" practice I have been trying with my children

  • Why naming the date, place, people, sounds, and sensory details can help us come back into the moment

  • How we can hold onto everyday motherhood without turning it into another high-pressure task

Whether you are walking outside, driving carpool, folding laundry, or listening during a quiet moment, I hope this episode gives you permission to pause and notice the life that is already unfolding around you.

You do not have to document everything to remember that it mattered.

A small practice to try

The next time you are with your child—or in any ordinary moment you want to take in—pause and gently narrate what is true:

"Today is [date]. I am here with [name]. We are [what you are doing]. I notice [a sound, scent, temperature, or tiny detail]."

There is nothing to fix or preserve perfectly. Just let yourself be there.

Mentioned in this episode
  • Upcoming podcast guest Monica Packer and her book, Sticky Habits

  • The upcoming Type B Mom's Memory-Keeping free audio offering

  • My conversation with Rachel Beachy (Episode 48)
