Push Button B - Part 1

Push Button B - Part 1

Once an iconic symbol of the Irish love of talk, public phoneboxes have all but disappeared from Ireland. How many public phone boxes remain in Ireland?

Are they in use? Who uses them?

Niall Delaney undertakes a tour of the public phone boxes still remaining in Ireland and unveils their nostalgic, historical and economic importance. From the iconic green and white Telefón boxes of the 1960's and 1970's, from where the breaking news and sports reports of the day originated, boxes where young love stories began and ended, or where reverse charge calls were made by emigrants to home), to the modernisation of the call card era in the 80's and sleeker, shinier telephone boxes. What has become of our phone boxes? Where have they gone, what are they being used for now?
