Story Transcript:

Ga: I lár an tsamhraidh, san árasán deas i mbruachbhaile Baile Átha Cliath, bhí Siobhán agus a mac Eoin ullamh don lá.
En: In the middle of summer, in the nice apartment in a suburb of Baile Átha Cliath (Dublin), Siobhán and her son Eoin were ready for the day.

Ga: Bhí na laethanta saoire ag imeacht ar a mbealach fuar agus bhí an scoil ag druidim linn.
En: The holidays were slipping away as they embraced the cooler weather, and school was approaching.

Ga: Bhí Siobhán dírithe ar thosú scoil nua Eoin agus bhí am acu anois do na siopadóireachtaí riachtanacha.
En: Siobhán was focused on the start of Eoin's new school, and they had time now for the necessary shopping.

Ga: Bhí an ghrian ag soilsiú go héadrom ar an sráidbhailte bríce, foirgnimh i ndiaidh foirgnimh, gach ceann le fuinneoga beaga agus pobal gnóthach.
En: The sun was lightly shining on the brick village, building after building, each with small windows and a busy community.

Ga: Bhí bealach díreach acu chuig an siopa stáiseanóireachta móréilimh ar an tsráid mhór, áit a bhfuil foireann chairdiúil agus rudaí ildaite de dhíth ar gach mac léinn.
En: They had a direct route to the popular stationery store on the main street, where a friendly staff and colorful items awaited every student.

Ga: "Tá mé cinnte tá liosta fada le fáil againn," a dúirt Siobhán go cúramach, "b'fhearr dúinn bheith ullamh.
En: "I'm sure we have a long list ahead of us," said Siobhán carefully, "we'd better be prepared."

Ga: "Ba bheag an suim a bhí ag Eoin.
En: Eoin wasn't very interested.

Ga: Bhí a intinn ag preabadh chuig cluichí ríomhaire agus ceol a bhanna is fearr leis seachas pinn luaidhe agus cóipleabhair.
En: His mind was jumping to computer games and music by his favorite band rather than pencils and notebooks.

Ga: "Ach Mam, tá sé leadránach," gearán sé, ag tabhairt súil taobh leis ar an gcomhrá.
En: "But Mam, it's boring," he complained, giving a sideways glance at the conversation.

Ga: Ach níor thuig Siobhán é sin roimhe seo.
En: But Siobhán understood that before.

Ga: Mar mháthair aireach, thuig sí go raibh sé tábhachtach a leanbh a bhí spreaga ar a bhealach féin, fiú má bhí siad sa siopa stáiseanóireachta.
En: As a caring mother, she understood the importance of having her child motivated in his own way, even if they were in a stationery store.

Ga: "Tá réiteach agam," a d'fhreagair sí go socair.
En: "I have a solution," she replied calmly.

Ga: Ag siúl isteach sa siopa mór, bhí dathanna geala agus cóipeanna ag líonadh na ndíonta.
En: Walking into the big store, bright colors and copies filled the shelves.

Ga: Phill Siobhán ar Eoin, ag tabhairt moltaí dó.
En: Siobhán turned to Eoin, giving him suggestions.

Ga: "Cad faoi do chóip féin a roghnú?
En: "How about choosing your own notebook?"

Ga: " d'fhiafraigh sí.
En: she asked.

Ga: "Roghnaigh rud éigin a thaitníonn leat.
En: "Pick something that you like."

Ga: "Thosaigh Eoin ag siúl ar aghaidheanna an ais mó ait a raibh an ranntaí.
En: Eoin started walking down the aisles where the collectables were.

Ga: Stop sé go tobann ag a bhfuil a bhí le feiceáil.
En: He suddenly stopped at what he saw.

Ga: Bhí cóip nóta ann le clúdach a chlúdach le híomhá a bhanna is fearr.
En: There was a notebook with a cover featuring an image of his favorite band.

Ga: A shúile ag lasadh suas le díograis.
En: His eyes lit up with enthusiasm.

Ga: Faoi dheireadh an lae, bhí an carr lán le soláthairtí, agus bhí Eoin ag caitheamh a chóta nua é féin chomh maith le roinnt as a chéile eile a phléann leis.
En: By the end of the day, the car was full of supplies, and Eoin was wearing his new coat, along with discussing some other items that interested him.

Ga: Bhí gnóthach againn, ach bhí Siobhán áthasach.
En: They had a busy day, but Siobhán was happy.

Ga: Thuig sí anois go bhfuil roghanna agus tuairimí a mhic tábhachtach.
En: She realized now that her son's choices and opinions were important.

Ga: Agus bhí Eoin níos ullmhaithe ná riamh, tuiscint níos fearr aige ar an luach a bhaineann le hullmhúchán.
En: And Eoin was more prepared than ever, with a better understanding of the value of preparation.

Ga: "Tá súil agam go mbeidh tú bródúil as do sholáthairtí nua," a dúirt Siobhán le gáire.
En: "I hope you'll be proud of your new supplies," Siobhán said with a smile.

Ga: Bhí Eoin ag meangadh gáire.
En: Eoin was grinning.

Ga: D'fhágadar an siopa le gealgháire, agus bhí an bheirt ag siúl abhaile, íomhí de samhradh sona ina gcroí.
En: They left the store cheerfully, and they both walked home, carrying the image of a happy summer in their hearts.
