Trump: Rhetoric vs Nuance

Every technological revolution arrives with disruption.

Railways reshaped towns. Electricity transformed industry. The internet changed how we communicate and work. Some communities resisted. Others rushed in. Both sometimes paid a price.

Now data centres are becoming the physical infrastructure behind artificial intelligence.

Trump’s message is blunt: embrace them or risk being left behind.

There is some truth buried beneath the rhetoric. But history teaches us that progress is not simply about building more infrastructure. It is about who ultimately benefits from it.

Power, water, jobs, taxes and community impact matter. A billion-dollar data centre means little to a community if the wealth flows elsewhere while the costs remain local.

We should not fear the infrastructure of the next era. Nor should we accept it blindly.

The lesson from previous industrial revolutions is simple: build for progress, but make sure people progress with it.

That may be the real debate behind Trump's words.
