Enoch Became Metatron? | 2 Enoch, 3 Enoch & Two Powers in Heaven

Did Enoch become the angel Metatron? In the final episode of the Broadcasting Seeds Enoch Arc, Bennett explores two later works in the Enoch tradition: 2 Enoch and 3 Enoch. 2 Enoch takes the patriarch through ten heavens and describes his transformation into a heavenly being. 3 Enoch goes even further, identifying Enoch with Metatron, giving him seventy names, a throne, a crown, and the controversial title “the lesser YHWH.” That tradition opens the door to the ancient Jewish controversy known as Two Powers in Heaven—the fear that an exalted heavenly figure could begin to look like a second divine authority. We examine Metatron, Elisha ben Abuyah, Rabbi Akiva, Merkabah mysticism, the heavenly palaces, Daniel 7, Ezekiel 1, Hebrews 1, Philippians 2, and the dividing line between an exalted created being and the Son of God. After four episodes following Enoch from Genesis through ancient Jewish literature, the trajectory becomes clear: Enoch keeps going up. Christianity makes a radically different claim. God came down.
