The Lindsay Clancy trial ended in a mistrial—and somehow, after weeks of testimony, I'm left with even more questions about postpartum psychosis, criminal responsibility, motherhood, and what it actually looks like when a woman is desperately struggling.

Then there's Mica Miller. I watched Netflix's new documentary Death of the Pastor's Wife, and her story has been living rent-free in my brain ever since.

Two completely different women. Two completely different tragedies. But both stories forced me to think about the same uncomfortable question:
