Shock Loss or Hair Shedding after Hair Transplant | MedLinks Hair Transplants

Shock loss is a temporary stage of hair shedding that occurs after the hair transplant surgery.

According to experts, hair shedding is different from shock loss as the shock loss is an outcome of trauma to the scalp after the surgery. However, it is important to understand the hair grows back again after a certain period of time.


Types of Shock loss after hair transplant:

1. Temporary Shock loss - It is an outcome of trauma to the scalp which leads to temporary hair shedding after the surgery. However, the hair begins to grow after a certain time period.

2. Permanent Shock loss - It is an outcome of prolonged trauma to the scalp that doesn’t allow the hair to regrow properly. Furthermore, these hair follicles are already affected by dihydrotestosterone, a hormone that is responsible for hair loss


Shock loss can occur for a few reasons. It can be upsetting to see healthy hair fall out, especially if you’ve just had surgery to prevent or reverse hair loss.
