PT 2 The Day She Walked Away: Shonda’s Journey Out of Domestic Abuse

In this deeply personal episode of The School of Hard Knocks, I sit down with my sister Shonda as she shares a story she spent years surviving, hiding, and eventually rising above.


Shonda opens up about her experience with domestic violence on two different occasions — both involving the fathers of her children — and the terrifying, heartbreaking, and courageous journey of getting out.


We talk about:

• what abuse looks like behind closed doors

• how it impacts mothers who are trying to protect their children

• the emotional and physical toll that no one on the outside sees

• the moment she knew she had to leave

• the strength it took to start over — twice

• rebuilding her identity after years of fear


This isn’t just a story about what she endured… it’s a story about what she overcame.
