Sukkot: Walking After You in the Wilderness — On Uncertainty, Faith, and Joy

In this episode of Underneath the Underneath, Yocheved steps into Sukkot still carrying the warmth of Yom Kippur — and finds in the humble, temporary structure of the sukkah a map for one of the deepest questions of human life: how do we walk through uncertainty?

Drawing on the Zohar's teaching that the sukkah is the shade of faith, the Izhbitzer on the schach as divine covering, and Rebbe Nachman's radical teaching that God created the world for people who can find faith through the confusion — this episode traces a trifecta alive in every sukkah: uncertainty, faith, and joy.

Not joy as the overriding of difficulty. Joy as deep attunement with the rightness of life as it is. The joy that emerges when we can hold our uncertainty in faith. The joy of following the divine into the wilderness — not because we have it figured out, but because we're in love.

We walked after You in the wilderness. That's the pillow talk of God and the Jewish people. And it's the invitation of Sukkot.
