Case No. 15: Asha Degree: The Little Girl Who Walked Into the Night

Case No. 15: Asha Degree: The Little Girl Who Walked Into the Night

Nine-year-old Asha Degree disappeared from her family's home in Shelby, North Carolina, during the early morning hours of February 14, 2000.

More than two decades later, her disappearance remains one of America's most haunting unsolved cases.

Multiple witnesses reported seeing a young girl walking alone along a highway before dawn. Despite an extensive search and years of investigative work, Asha has never been found. Her family has never stopped searching, and law enforcement continues to pursue new leads in hopes of finally learning what happened that night.

In this episode of Cold World Crime Time, Michelle carefully examines Asha's life, the timeline of her disappearance, the eyewitness reports, the physical evidence recovered during the investigation, and the significant developments that have renewed hope in this case. Throughout the episode, we distinguish between verified facts, investigative findings, publicly reported information, and the questions that investigators continue to examine.

Asha was more than a missing child.

She was a daughter.

A sister.

A fourth-grade student.

A little girl with dreams, a loving family, and an entire life ahead of her.

Our goal is not to sensationalize her disappearance, but to honor her life, explain the investigation with care, and remember the child at the center of this story.

At Cold World Crime Time, we are committed to telling victim-centered, evidence-driven true crime stories with compassion, accuracy, and respect. We separate verified facts from speculation, explain investigations in plain English, and keep every victim—not every suspect—at the heart of every episode.

Listener Discretion: This episode discusses the disappearance of a child and may contain themes that are difficult for some listeners. Listener discretion is advised.
