34: Jeremy Klaszus

34: Jeremy Klaszus

The Sprawl is like no other paper I have read in recent years. It is deeply local. It explores in depth the sense of place, what has made Calgary what it is today. Jeremy often writes about its various institutions, archives, bookshops, libraries, transit systems as well as current municipal challenges. He pulls forward initiatives that show how a meaningful civil life is shaped amidst the challenges of development. I wanted to explore how his lovely sense of the gifts of the local world laid hold of him.

I remember the American writer Paul Goodman saying back in the 1960s that the most radical thing a person can do is “live in one place.” How did Jeremy come to treasure living in one place? What did his formative childhood, his teenage years and early adulthood prepare him for doing his stellar work?
Welcome to our conversation.
