Bahrain in Malaysia GP Review: Max Is Finally Back

Formula 1 returned to Sepang for the very strange Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia — and the weekend immediately descended into chaos.

Rain delayed the start, the cars basically stopped working because of an FIA software issue, and once we finally got racing, Max Verstappen produced his best performance of the season.

This episode includes:

• The bizarre software failure that forced the race to stop almost as soon as it started

• Max Verstappen fighting back past both Mercedes cars to take his first win of 2026

• Why Sepang produced such good racing — and why tracks like Malaysia deserve a permanent place back on the calendar

• Ferrari recovering from a terrible tyre gamble, with Lewis charging from 16th and eventually taking P3

• McLaren’s strange Oscar Piastri strategy, another slow pit stop, and Lando’s trip through the gravel under the safety car

• Williams throwing away a massive chance after running P6 and P7, plus George Russell suffering another painful mechanical retirement

🏁

Fernando Alonso gets Skin’s Guru for a brilliant drive and one of the overtakes of the season, Max gets David’s Guru, and Williams are unanimously the Fools.
