The Butter Tart 700, more commonly known as the BT700 is Ontario's premier bikepacking event help annually on the weekend closest to the summer solstice. Having now been around for several years, the BT700 has gone through growth and improvement and is now 760km long and includes more singletrack and gravel than any other route of this length in Ontario. In the spring and summer of 2021, I developed some bikepacking routes that take rides through the Outaouais Region, Laurentian Mountains, and Western parts of Quebec. One of these routes was the Grand-O, which has since been renamed the Canadian Shield 400, one of three loops that make up the Canadian Shield Bikepacking Route. In this episode of BTA, I get to met Zoe Agasi and Olivier Van Herck, a couple of travellers from Amsterdam that embarked in an open ended adventure of a life time on the very last day of September 2016. They started by traveling across Europe by bike then mixing up boats, hiking boots and skis to get wherever their curiosity would pull them. They are advocating for a slower and more sustainable way of travelling, giving the example of what is possible to achieve on zero, two, or six sets of wheels. They’ve since travelled more than 41000km and are not planning to stop anytime soon.
