Why Understanding Your Drinking Hasn't Changed It Yet

Why Understanding Your Drinking Hasn't Changed It Yet

A fallacy in our thinking: We picked up alcohol and put it to our mouth for 30 years. Therefore stopping requires the same thing.

Yes, but STAYING stopped requires us to:

1. Build new pathways so that our brain has something different it can do.

2. Train our mental pathways

3. Train our emotional pathways

4. Increase our nervous systems tolerance to hold tension

5. Practice it enough until it becomes safe enough to exercise

If we fail to address any of these aspects of the recovery process, we will relapse and experience frustration and call it a mystery.
