Montrose’s Future Is on the Ballot: 4 Charter Amendments Explained

This week on WKRP Montrose, Dennis sits down with Beth McCorkle and Greg Cairns for an in-depth conversation about four proposed amendments to the Montrose City Charter—and how they could reshape local government.

With an open City Council seat following Dave Frank’s resignation, Beth shares why she stepped forward as a candidate, while she and Greg break down the ballot questions and the potential consequences for Montrose residents.

Dennis, Beth, and Greg discuss:

• Lifetime Term Limits: Would limiting council members to eight years bring fresh perspectives or remove valuable experience?

• Moving Elections to November: Could higher voter turnout come at the cost of nonpartisan local elections and increased voter fatigue?

• Police Chief Oversight: What could happen if City Council takes direct control over hiring and firing the police chief?

• City Clerk Oversight: Why does the city clerk’s independence matter for election integrity?

• The Future of Montrose Governance: The importance of the council-manager form of government and plans for a community-led Charter Review Commission.

These proposed amendments could affect how Montrose elects its leaders, manages public safety, and protects local election processes. Whether you’re already following the debate or just starting to learn about the issues, this conversation offers important context to help you make an informed decision.
