He Started With Nothing... Then He Built Gumball 3000 | Maximillion Cooper

Maximillion Cooper is the founder and CEO of Gumball 3000, the celebrity supercar rally and lifestyle brand. Born in the English Midlands in 1972 to an abstract painter and a calligrapher, he studied fashion design at Central Saint Martins before modelling for Giorgio Armani and Ralph Lauren and spending the money on a racing career.

In his mid-twenties he tried to buy the Tyrrell Formula 1 team but lost out to British American Tobacco. Instead, he took his friends and backers on a road trip across Europe. That trip became Gumball 3000, now 27 rallies across Europe, North America and Asia. Along the way came a Jackass special on MTV, a PlayStation game, collaborations with Hot Wheels, Ulysse Nardin and Hard Rock, and Gumball Houses in London, Miami and Dubai.

He is married to Grammy-winning rapper Eve, whom he met on the 2010 rally.

He explains:

How losing the Tyrrell F1 team led him to create Gumball 3000
How he launched Gumball from his flat with zero in the bank and came out of the first rally deep in debt
The moment Russian cargo plane owners took his own car as collateral halfway through the second rally
Why he has never had a business partner or investor, and why he kept the stress hidden from his own team
