Nanoleaf CEO on the SwitchBot Merger and the Future of Smart Lighting

AI data centers are driving up hardware costs, Matter is gaining momentum, and Nanoleaf is joining forces with SwitchBot to expand beyond lighting. In this episode of Smart Home Insider, host Andrew O’Hara talks with Nanoleaf CEO Gimmy Chu about the forces reshaping the smart home—and what the merger could mean for products to come.

They discuss why components like memory and circuit boards are getting more expensive, Apple’s new Home hub and its place in the smart home, and the rapid growth of Matter-certified devices. Gimmy also explains how Nanoleaf’s MCP service could let people use AI to control their lights, and how Nanoleaf and SwitchBot plan to bring their products and expertise together across lighting, shades, and more.

Whether you’re curious about AI-powered home automation, following Apple Home, or wondering what’s next for Matter and connected devices, this conversation offers an inside look at a fast-changing industry.
